And the second set slips away 6-3

Meanwhile, over on Grandstand, another European who won't win this tournament - Cilic goes out in 4 to Schwarzman

Edit - beaten to the post by the Eurosport satelite lag

OK, don't tell Kyle and Denis, but Diego Schwartzman has just seen off Marin Cilic in four sets.

The highest ranked player left in the bottom half is (10) Isner WR 15, and he's still to play his L32 match. The highest ranked player left in their quarter is (12) Carreno Busta WR 19 who has won his L32 match and who the winner of Kyle & Denis would meet in the L16.

Edit: seems news is getting about though

Bob:  his first name is actually spelt "Denis".  wink

Clearly his parents' spelling is even worse than mine.

Doubt it:  Denis is a popular Christian name in French-speaking countries & is derived from that of the name of the Greek god, Dionysus.  It's the ignorant Anglophones who seem to have added an extra "n".  I automatically spell it the French way unless I know better.

Although if he were in France, it would be pronounced D'nee (as in Blondie's 'Denis Denis')

Which rather ruins the 'Dennis of Tennis' sort of jokes....

Any more slanderous talk about the double n and Dennis the Menace will be after you with Gnasher.

Kyle looks like he is really suffering with his back/neck.

Not looking good at all. Now 3-4* down and hasn't won a point since the injury break.

Edit

*3-5  That's 12 points in a row for Shapovalov. I fear this match may not even go the distance. Hoping it's more of a rope-a-dope thing, but Kyle can hardly hit the ball.

No fearhand today, lacks pace and is hitting it out and hardly hitting any first serves.

Damn shame.

Whether Kyle carries on or not, this match is over. His last couple of 1st serves weren't even 2nd serve pace. He was just rolling the ball in. It is painful to watch.

Shapovalov takes the set 6-3

As a French-speaker, I am well aware of that.
