Week 34 - US Open Qualifying

Brilliant, just Brilliant. That'll make a big dent in his ranking. Let's hope the draw is kind, there are a few good spots - and a few not so good.

Superb. Seeing a British player come through qualifying at a slam does the soul good. Feel-good moment.

NB Excellent story about JC Aragone, ranked 536, who has also come through three rounds of qualis to make the main draw.

When JC was 17, this happened:

"Back in January, Aragone, a 17-year-old from Yorba Linda, Calif., had an allergic reaction to drugs he was given, which resulted in liver and kidney failure and several lengthy stays in the hospital."

This triggered Type 1 diabetes, and he takes transplant medication to protect his kidneys and liver, and steroids for the continual inflammation of his organs.

(And all because of having 'flu and taking some doctor-prescribed drugs that caused a reaction).

Well done to him.

Well done to JC but what a fantastic run for Cam. At last "the best player in college tennis this year" is in the MD of the US open, no wildcard required. Just graft and talent!

Nice article about Cam (mainly) on the ATP site:

www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/us-open-qualifying-2017-challenger-success-shapovalov-santillan-norrie

Didn't know that his coach is a young Argentinian either (well done, that man too).
Although I do remember reading that Cam's now based properly in the States, which this seems to confirm.

Anyway, great to hear that he feels in great shape.

What luck, he gets a man ranked 600 odd.  He should win this.

That is a fantastic draw for Cam, Tursanov a challenger player these days at best. I ll stick by my predication that by year end 2018 Cam will be above Kyle in the rankings.

We could have 4 men in round 2 for the first time in at least 25 years I believe maybe longer.

For context, Tursonov's last 5 matches:

Aptos 100K - qualifying second round loss to Krajicek (WR277)
Washington ATP 500 - second round (PR) loss to Gilles Muller (WR22) beat Krueger in round 1 (WR219)
Hamburg ATP 500 - first round (PR) loss to Beniot Paire (WR37)
Wimbledon - first round (PR) loss to Fognini (WR29)
Australian Open (yes, in JANUARY) first round (PR) loss to Stepanek (WR102)

Suffice to say, I'm confident.

Would play Curreno Busta or qualifier, Evan King in Round 2.
