Certainly Kevin Anderson's withdrawal has left Kyle with a path to the QF that contains no higher ranked player than himself. While ironically if he had entered as normal and been seeded 9-12 he would have been bracketed with a 5-8 seed and higher ranked player for the L16 round.
Hopefully he can get a lot of advance defence in this week for the 180 US Open points that are soon to drop off. Though he's still allowed a good US Open too
He wanted matches. He could in theory have 8 in 8 days!! Let's hope for a few more anyway.
Bar the top 4 or 5 players it's a challenger quality field so Kyle has his best chance for points at an ATP level tournament for a while. I'd also imagine the better players will be cautious with US Open next week.
Apart from the Big 4, according to some posters, everybody is Challenger quality.
Ah, although a decent draw for Kyle I was rather wondering at it being called a "challenger quality field"
The original 16 seeds came from the top 52, as does Kyle of course ( don't you have to get special dispensation to play a challenger if you are top 50? ) and WR 100 was the last direct entrant.
Even if fit the absolute 'stars' rarely come out in force for an ATP 250.

Some pedantic replies to my point here. Usual quotation comments etc. It's the week before a Slam as I said therefore there will be some holding back. And I'm well aware of the fields in 250s generally but even still it's an average field filled with your usual top challenger players hence my point about Kyle having a chance.
I do wonder if the fact that Kyle only picked up tennis at age 10 has something to do with his "it's still early days" mentalilty. His progress is even more remarkable considering he has experienced 5 less years with a tennis racket in his hand than most guys his age on tour.

Kyle did start much later than most, he is not from a tennis family with an elite coach on tap from birth unlike Zevrev, Fritz, Shapovalov, Rubulev, he is not over 6'4" Medvedev, Kyrgios, Kachanov, Opelka or the son of a guy who works at a tennis centre.
He didn't get hothoused in Spain or Florida but has a desire for self improvement a natural fearhand and a decent serve, the only comparison I can see is Borna Coric hothoused in Northwood. It's remarkable he's got anywhere.
