Decent.
Still knocking the rust off, but good to re-employ the hard-court win column.
Jo's 20th Hard Court win of the season (23 if you include Fed Cup)
Cibulkova or Cornet next, who play tomorrow.
Domi was quite impressive today against Konjuh, but has a shoulder/upper arm strapping which seemed to bother her.

Domi beat Alizé, in a strange match which was decided mostly by Alizé being very Alizé at times.
A steady Jo should have every chance, but Cibulkova played some good stuff in the first set today, which if maintained throughout a match would be more than equal to the usual considerable threat that the Slovakian poses.

I see the WTA site has been adding a new word to the rich tapestry of language with an article headed up ...
"Wozniacki outsteadies Vesnina to move on in Cincinnati"
I guess we know what they mean.
Their website still doesn't work.
But, forgive them, because they are too busy posting fluff stories about Sharapova every day despite her not playing in months.
However, their new linguistic flair in article headlines pales in to comparison with their hard hitting, piece of yesterday: Kim Kardashian says Serena is a Karaoke queen. That was the entire content of the article.
Are theey now the worst major sports governing body around - outside of boxing?

Few of the male players can be thrilled that their 4 premier events are financially tied to this setup.
Just that the WTA allows the shambles that is on court coaching results in womens matches at slams being less entertaining than otherwise would be, resulting in one sided, uncompetetive matches. Their ability to independently problem solve and emotionally manage themselves during a match has not been developed to the same extent as in the mens, where there is no coach to routinely do it for them.

I know that it is only a national body, but the England and Wales cricket board have to be close in this category.
The FA haven't done badly this year, success with the England age group teams at a number of levels and massive investment in women's football with some return there also.
The BBC were actually slightly miffed that they had lists the rights to women's!!! euros, I have definitely noticed a significant improvement in the level of technical skill and tactical awareness at the highest level of women's international football to such an extent I went to a game.
Women's tennis as a professional female sport is in the box seat but it is essential that nationally we build on that and get the best athletes, if not other sports will do, indeed are doing!
The WTA's website communications are all too frequently a bit of an embarrassment: one would think that they were a gossip agency, rather than being the governing body of a sport. There are valiant exceptions - would that the whole reached the level of the best.
