Elixane L (Sam's opponent) keeps a nice blog, and has been waxing lyrical about the wonderful facilities at Woking and Chiswick (don't think she's really used to 'private' tennis clubs that Britain specialises in).
She's 25 and was a big hope of French tennis (runner-up in the nationals at 17 or 18 and went to the elite NCT in Paris) but never really made the transition, and so left after 3 years and went to the States and got a degree.
She's now trying to make a go of it in tennis, but is borderline to managing. She plays team tennis (in France, Italy and Germany) and Grand Circuit money tournaments to make ends meet but says she'd rather not have to.
I was going to post the WD QF scores, but they vanished off the ITF live scores before I could copy them
All eleven matches (singles and doubles) were straight sets today (one WD walkover), and the only tie-break was in the last match to finish, won by Sam +
22 of our top 26 ranked singles players were due to be in action in various places this week. And 19 were, with Gabi and Freya withdrawing before the off here and Katie B similarly from Landisville.
