Ella battling in the second set against Eden. Eden a set up 6-2 *4-5
Useless trivia of the day : 8 of our 33 ranked players' names begin with an E. Although actually none of our top 12 Come on the Es.
That's quite funny, though if any letter was going to stand out, it's not surprising that it's "E", given that Emily was the no. 1 or no. 2 girl's name in the UK in the years during which most of these players were born, albeit only a lowly 24th in the year the oldest ranked GB Emily was born.

Again, slight shame that there are two quali spots unfilled.
And, similarly, well done to players like Taro Keens, 19th on the ALT list, who turned up, inscribed and get their chance.....
Someone has been in France for too long Agree with the sentiments, of course!
You're not wrong
It's a problem that, having never played in the UK, all my tennis vocabulary is basically French - and the English words (whatever the heck they are) just don't come naturally (the translation for 'geste' gets me - 'swing' doesn't seem quite right - and what are 'appuis' ??? stance??? again, doesn't seem right).
Sorry !
PS Congrats to Olivia, that's a nice result, against a decent ranked player.
No need to apologise, it was obvious what you meant and it made me smile. I've only been out of the UK for 6 months and already getting my vocabulary 'infected', though thankfully not my accent.
Olivia's result was a nice oasis in another desert of R1 thrashings for the unranked Brits, though how they're supposed be become competitive in 25K qualies when there are hardly any 15Ks in the UK is beyond me, kudos to them for at least having a go in Woking and here.

Yes that was a good won for Olivia, but the second problem of only having 25ks meaning all the Brits are mainly in qualifying is that she'd have to get another even better win to gain a solitary win, today's victory over the WR691 being insufficient for a point. And since she has Jodie Anna next, the likelihood of that single point is remote.

The last match between Olivia and Jodie was a few weeks ago in the Wimbledon pre-qualis...and Olivia won in straight sets!

No huge consolation as such but there are (at least) three quasi-brits who have qualified too - Mariam Bolk., Eva Siska and Lily Miyazaki are all based in the UK (think Lily is at college in the US now but still based here outside of termtime).
They don't count quite the same as Brits, of course, but in terms of the health of tennis in our country it's always good, in my opinion, if other players based here are doing well.
