Who knows probably a question of putting 2 and 2 together and making 12. There is a big difference between employing Josh Godall as a coach and Oli at this stage.
Josh is obviously an enthusiast with a great love of the game as illustrated by his recent trip to Felixstowe in his summer holidays. It wouldn't be my first choice, umm but on reflection it might.
Oli is obviously very different but if it is the road he is taking I wish him luck but would so much rather he had another crack at pro tennis, he is still young but I think the mindset of a 23 year old is very different from someone just turned 20. Having been both an immature and mature student ones head is in a completely different place in terms of the task in hand and as a consequence you are able to take much more from it.
Yes, I know what you mean. It's so fun speculating, but we know diddly squat so it's all worthless, which is partly why it's fun ......
Seem to remember reading somewhere that Oli was working as a coach at his mother's tennis centre. Which did make me think that maybe the Alexis thing was more possible. And obviously Alexis didn't work out with Josh (and quite quickly too). And - I'm sorry Josh, I know you read this, and it's only my opinion, which is worth precisely diddly squat squared - but when I saw Josh G and Alexis together at a British Tour event, I wasn't impressed - Josh seemed to rather 'old-fashioned' in his approach, and not sure about the dynamics between Josh and Alexis' dad either.
It's possible that Oli, with all the amazing amount of coaching thrown at him by the LTA, has a better range of tools at his disposal - and is younger and more 'open'.
Oli certainly submitted some business plan quite recently to (very roughly) transform old public tennis courts into a more modern complex - but they got rejected by the LTA. I think his wife is an ex-tennis player too (although might be wrong). So the business of tennis is still up there.
But, net net, I certainly agree, I would love to see Oliver Golding give pro-tennis another go, now that he is still young/very young but more settled, and that bit more adult.
I seem to recall oli's partner is russian or belarussian? perhaps that would explain why he is in the area.
Now THAT'S smart - yes, that makes perfect sense.
And, to be honest, however much Oli doesn't like playing competitive tennis, it might still rank as better than trotting the baby round all the friends and relations, sitting there with people chatting on and you understanding nothing.....
