Well that's put a big ol' smile on my face this morning. Great stuff, and as mentioned by Steven, James keeps himself on the rankings for another year :)

L16: (PR) James Ward WR 1082 v (WC) Sidharth Rawat (IND) WR 574 (CH 522 May 2016)

Rawat won his 1st round match when Sam Barry retired midway through the 3rd set.

Unlikely it's true.

But if Evo is not back in contention and Aljaz hasn't won his appeal and if Cam and Jay say ( or Brydan? ) haven't really pushed through, and James got back anywhere close to the top 100 by the second half of next year if we're still involved then, we could be a missed tie from Andy or Kyle away from ...

OK, a few ifs

Edit: Actually thinking about it, earlier in the year is probably at least as much a possibility. James may be more ready later and no doubt higher ranked ( purely because of having played more tournaments ), though will still have quite a few months back, but the various other ifs are more likely earlier.

Oh Ye (and Me) of little faith. James wins 7-6 7-6

Welcome back Wardy. We've missed you.

That certainly includes me, Bob!  Didn't see that coming at all, so I'll second the sentiment in your final sentence!  jump.gif

Well done James. Wasn't it Berankis who Marcus Willis beat at Wimbledon last year?

Indeed it was. Calling Mr Berankis if you want a feel good match

It's now many years ( over 7, how time flies ) since he contributed two wins to the European Group 2 Lithuania defeat of GB in the Davis Cup. And given that that defeat brought closure to the John Lloyd reign and the start of Leon Smith's some may have mixed views on these wins anyway.

Yep.  This result actually prompted me to go back to the 2016 Wimbledon thread and check.

I guess it depends on how you define nonsense.  Clearly, if DC was next week, Wardy wouldn't get a look in.  But our next DC match is 6 months away.  Let's take the following scenario, all of which is possible (some would say probable).  Andy opts not to play or is still injured and Kyle is in as first singles.  Evo is banned and Aljaz has had no luck with any appeals.

Who are we left with for second singles ?  Well, there is Jay who is making tremendous progress but still some way off.  Cam is clearly ahead of Jay at the moment but is he ready for World Group DC tennis ?  Not yet - but he may be in 6 months.  But if by next Feb, Wardy has climbed back to say, WR 200, do you put in a rookie such as Cam or Jay, or do you go with someone who has experienced the unique pressures of DC first hand and had some success.

So to be clear, I am obviously not saying Wardy is first choice NOW. just that there exists the possibility, 6 months down the road, that he COULD be in the mix for selection.
