Ms. Murray wraps a comfortable 6-2 6-2 win.

We wait to see if EWS has managed to hot foot it the ~180 odd miles across Quebec in time to play her match in a couple of hours.

Sam next plays Jessika Ponchet, about whom I eagerly await the CD history & form report

I've never seen Jessika play and - as far as I knew - she was really just one of the mass, just another young, decent player but without anything to get really excited about.

And then she got a wildcard for the qualis at Roland Garros (despite being only WTA 450 or so). And she won a round, beating Galfi (about 150).

And she gave a very touching interview, saying how it's her mum who trains her, including her dodgy backhand, and how short of money they are, and how that paycheque would make such a difference, and how her dad had deliberately misspelled her name because he wanted a 'Jessica' who was different

It was all very endearing.

However, I'm still not convinced that her level is anything amazing or to be scared of....

The unfortunate Vagramov has gone out to Sam & Em in qualifying in successive weeks.

Emily gets former world no. 14 (now WR 957) Elena Bovina in QR2, with the winner to play the winner of Sam's match in final qualifying. Thankfully, the Russian's results this year suggest she is playing more like WR 957 than WR 14, but still a tricky unseeded opponent to get in qualifying, I'm sure.

Hoping to see both Katie and Katy build on a decent grass season.

Good start for Sam and Em. I was a big fan of Bovina. Shame she never got back to the heights of the top 20 again.
