I knew I should have put an asterisk by her. UTR entry list would have listed her as Bath, UK being based at Bath Academy - thus Cardiff Met showing her as GBR on their published entry list. On screen graphics do show her as Turkish.
At the Cardiff PTT the winner of the play-offs for group winners was Aneta Laboutkova defeating Romanian adopted Brit Karola Bejenaru. They defeated the other group winners Erin Pearce and Indi Spink yesterday. Melissa Boyden won the play-offs of those finishing 2nd in the groups, Izzie Britton won the play-offs of group 3rd place finishers, Victoria Kapica won the play-offs for 4th place group finishers and Keira Blackbeard for the play-offs for those finishing bottom of their group.
In the Winston-Salem PTT, all 4 group winners were Wake Forest players on their home courts. Luca and DK Suresh defeated the other group winners and are played the final of the 1st place play-off in a rematch of the ITF final from a couple of months ago. Luca unfortunately lost an entertaining match in straight sets, losing the tie-break in both sets.
Gabia is playing the PTT in Boca Raton, starting today. She's been training and partaking in the team Christmas festivities this past week. Abby Amos is in the Czechia PTT starting tomorrow.
Rosie Cho apparently played Battle of Boca last weekend as a warm up for the Junior Orange Bowl this week. Battle of Boca is a weekly weekend UTR event with $2,000 to the winner, with Blu Baker winning it more than anyone else such that they retired the presentation cheque and gave it to him after his 11th title in July. He's since won a 12th title. Anyway I digress. No idea how Rosie did.
Meanwhile in the $25k PTT event this week in Boca Raton, Gabia has won all her round-robin matches but today faces a much stiffer test in Alicia Herrero Linana who's at a CH WTA ranking of 605. I've no idea what the format of this event is and whether they're into a knock-out stage or there is another group stage*. It seems to have been a 24 player event (6 groups of 4), which is now down to 12 players with 4 days remaining.
There's a big contingent of our men in the UTR in Alvor, Portugal this week, many of them staying on from the UTR there last week. Finn Murgett, Max Benaim, Marshall Tutu, Marcus Walters, Joe Leather, Sean Hodkin, Stefan Cooper are all there. Zach Stephens is playing the US UTR.
Finn Murgett leads group A with 2 wins from 2. He was leading 6-3 1-1* against Max Benaim yesterday when play was suspended. max has lost his only other match this week. Max defeated Marshall Tutu in the 3rd place play-offs final last week. (3rd place play-offs means play-offs for the players finishing 3rd in their group)
Marshall is *1-1 suspended against Marcus Walters. Marshall has lost both his other matches this week. Marcus leads Group C with 1 win. Marcus lost the 1st place semi-finals last week after winning all his group matches.
In group D, Sean Hodkin has 1 win from 1 and is leading 6-3 5-2* suspended. Sean had lost to Marshall in last week's 3rd place semi-finals. Joe Leather won against Stefan Cooper after Stefan retired. Joe has 1 other win this week and a loss to Sean. Stefan has 1 other loss this week and lost the 4th place playoffs final last week.
Zach Stephens is in the Newport Beach UTR with 2 wins from 2 this week. He didn't play last week's UTR, but played the Newport Beach UTR a couple of weeks ago losing the 4th place playoffs final. Hes playing UTRs as he hasn't featured in any of Pepperdine University's team matches this year. Some US College coaches encourage their bench players to go play UTRs (rather than ITFs) for match practice as they get to play a guaranteed 5 matches.
None of our women this week, who don't appear to play UTRs as much as our men, but Abby Amos has been a regular in Eastern European UTRs of late and Dani Daley pops up from time to time.
Alvor, Portugal 1st place playoffs - final: Finn Murgett (GBR) d. Tomas Curras Abasolo (ESP) (ATP961) 6-2 3-6 6-2 2nd place playoffs - final: Daniel Batista (POR) (ATP 1744) d. So these UTR events and particularly Cardiff. A few questions!
- they seem to have a stronger entry than British Tour recently; do UTR events, per your prize money breakdown above, pay more than the British Tour Premier level events?
- do the UTR events have a linked structure or narrative or are they standalone? I know there is a Progress Tour and are these UTR events part of that?
- the British Tour premier events seem to be fewer than past years or is that a wrong perception? And is the British Tour dwindling a bit?
- I saw the UKPL has a couple of events this year - will they be UTR events or separate?
Basically how do UTR, UKPL, Progress Tour and British Tour all hang together or dont they and shouldnt I care about that!

PS - Sorry - I posted this before reading your post on 'heh ho', Jon - didn't realise what had happened - so sorry if this looked 'inappropriate' - all the best !
