UTR Tennis Tournaments (in Britain or with British Players)

Nice to see Marshall Tutu playing, and getting a win in Beograd (I think he'd lost all his matches this week so a win's good )

So, Brighton is hosting a UTR tennis tournament with £1800 for the winner, decent money all the way down, prizes for the divisional winners, host families, etc. etc.

It seems to be a men/women mixed event (based purely on UTR ranking), which is interesting in

Is this a completely new thing? Or have I just missed previous ones? I wonder which of our players will take part....

Details at.

I think Eddie has a good point.

Obviously not everyone will be available but there will be lots of students, some entrants will take 'sickies' in order to play and, in France, quite a lot of people plan their holiday (or at least one week of it) around their favourite tennis tournament, especially if promised at least two matches as it says here (or doubles as well).

Talking purely from personal experience, I have been horrified to find not a single adult singles tournament, with ranking points, for me to take part in since moving back to England - and that despite living in London.
Yet, in France, in the middle of nowhere, I have at least 20 a year, within 30-45 mins drive, (and about 60 a year within 60-75 mins drive).

Mind you, £44 entry fee is steep, to say the least.

I thought there was a dedicated thread for the Progress Tour but if there is I couldn't find it.

Anyway, this week the £10k prize money event in Cromer and as the mens winner gets a place in the Wimbledon WC play-offs I thought it worth noting.

The top seeds in the men are
[1] Ryan Storrie
[2] Alexis Canter
[3] Michael Shaw
[4] Roan Jones

QFs get underway tomorrow

The women are just playing for prize money and the top seeds are
[1] Danielle Daley
[2] Orla Cooper
[3] Indianna Spink
[4] Kate Mansfield

Draws and matches with results are to be found here

Thanks so much for this, Lamdba

Sad to see that Ryan had to retire... ::((

But really pleased for Sally P - I like her tennis - but haven't seen her since she was 18-ish - now at US college, I believe, which I imagine must suit her very well.

And Derrick too - another nice face from juniors, and a decent game

Hi all,

For those interested in following draws in future, all PT events are hosted here:

https://courthive.com/live/PROGRESS

I will also endeavour to make relevant links and draws readily available via the main site - www.theprogresstour.com

Luke Simkiss - a great example of a player who has benefited from playing a volume of higher level matches (UTR $25k events plus PT) and made huge strides as a result - went on to pick up his first ATP points, making SF of a $15k a few weeks later in the Netherlands.

So many more competitive opportunities here in the UK right now
