How fortunate are we? I'm not normally a fan of mixed doubles, but those were two amazing matches. The Kontinen/Watson Dodig/Mirza had some of the best quality imaginable (I see Kontinen's ridiculous shot has made the Wimbledon website's front page - if you didn't see it, take a look) but it never felt that close. The Skupski/Rae Mirnyi/Makarova had high quality tennis AND was an absolute nail-biter. The mental fortitude, as well as the tennis skills, needed to win it must have been quite something. Well done to Ms Rae and Mr Skupski. Just superb.
Hope that this not only is a joy for them here and now but also helps them in the coming months/years. Having a Court 1 crowd roar as you come through a tight match like that must be the kind of memory you can store away to drawn on when necessary.
(PS: I couldn't help thinking of Madeline. She would have had to buy new cushions - but wouldn't she have loved it?)

The first of those two matches has been scheduled for Centre Court tomorrow.
So Ken & Joss get to play on Court 1 & Centre on successive days. The stuff of which the dreams of most tennis players plying their trade lower down the pecking order are made!
