Well done Jo. No drama no fuss into R4.

Assume Jo has to be favourite against Caroline Garcia.

Given that the bookmakers have made her favourite for the tournament....

Madness, there are loads of top players who I would put ahead of Jo. Venus, Halep, Svitolina, Azarenka, Coco, Ostapenko etc

I don't know that I'd have Jo favourite though in truth not too far off in a tight market. But I would certainly have her ahead of some of the above  - Ostapenko, Svitolina ( though yes her odds look too long ) and probably Azarenka.

I see in the bet365 odds, as well as having Jo very arguable favourite though at a long 5/1 for a favourite, ahead of four players at 9/1. There are 10 players in all priced at 14/1 or less - that's open! They are Jo, the 6 in paulisi's post, Kerber, Muguruza and Wozniacki.

I assume that the top half winners on Saturday will shorten a bit so see how it stands after today  Anyway you pays your money and takes your choice if you're that way inclined. Certainly going to be interesting.

Just watched Broady and Watson push Flipkens and Mirza all the way - in the end our girls didn't manage it, but still a great performance to push two of the world's best doubles players so hard. I think they can both take great encouragement from their performances in singles and doubles this week - not sure how fresh Naomi will be feeling for her mixed doubles later.

By the way I can't help mentioning that when the qualifying draw was announced, several people said that Gabi and Katie (Dunne) were unlucky in drawing Van Uytvanck, as she was in their opinion the best player in the qualies - I mentioned that I thought that although Van Uytvanck is good, that honour ought to go to Petra Martic or Arantxa Rus (who were in the same section of the draw) - well Martic is now in the last 16, and has most definitely proved that call a good one, I think. Not sure she'll get further, but a top 100 player, without question.

Yes, and actually an interesting last 16 tie between two currently very underranked players making their way back up the rankings.

Rybarikova ( WR 87, CH 31 in 2013, all those grass wins ) vs Martic ( WR 135, CH 42 in 2012, also made the last 16 from qualifying at the French Open )

The winner will play (5) Wozniacki or (24) Vandeweghe in the QF. I'd fancy Coco to get through to the SF, but who knows with these first two and Caroline can really dig in like she had to today from a dire looking position in her second set.

As one of those said people, I will agree with you at this point Andy. Petra Martic has indeed done extremely well.

I don't mind Ostapenko at all on anything I've seen in the last year or two. I do read what has been said about her junior days. I hope that she has changed, sounded as if she very much needed to and give her the benefit for now. I don't mind a bit of feisty if she can keep it to that and put the rest in the past.

An interesting article about Wim's tactics and strategy with JoKo:

I'm rather bemused by the scheduling of tomorrows matches. Jo Konta should have been put on Centre Court not Number 1.

Mondays play could well be disrupted by showers and surely the club should be doing everything possible to help the Brits.

I still find this no play on the middle Sunday bizarre, you end up with some great looking matches being stuck on smaller courts on the Monday. A point in case being Halep v Azarenka, that should be on centre court.

Thanks CD, that was an interesting and informqative read. I didn't know much about Jo's new coach, certainly not who his previous charges were. She's in good company.

So I decided I had a half hour to spare and took a look at the head to heads etc for remaining singles fields.

I went by:

1) Last grass match played between the 2 players

2) If no grass played, last hard or indoor match

3) if no hard or indoor, last clay

4) If not played on any surface, then Wimbledon seeding or ranking if no seeding position

So, on that basis, here is how the field might pan out

Muguruza bt Kerber

Radwanska bt Kuznetsova

Rybarikova bt Martic

Wozniacki bt Vandeweghe

Williams bt Konjuh

Svitolina bt Ostapenko

Garcia bt Konta (sorry, she beat Jo at Indian Wells last time out)

Halep bt Azarenka

Quarters:

Muguruza bt Radwanska

Wozniacki bt Rybarikova

Williams bt Svitolina

Halep bt Garcia

Semis :

Muguruza bt Wozniacki

Williams bt Halep

FINAL

Venus Williams to beat Muguruza (last time played on hard was Wuhan in 2015).

So, do folks reckon Venus can win this year? If not who??

If Coco plays like she played against Jo at Birmingham she could win the whole thing. However, she retired from her next match so if she is carrying an injury then she may be hampered by that

Shes certainly in an open quarter of the draw (although most are pretty open) so I wouldnt put a semi beyond her.

I expect Konta to win tomorrow, although Garcia does have a powerful game which on the face of it should be suited to grass she can be very inconsistent and can rack up the unforced errors in matches.

As for the other results the womens game seems very unpredictable, on the face of it Coco should have a great chance at beating Wozniacki, Kerber I thinks been poor and far too passive. If Konta doesn't manage to provide the happy ending then I'd love to see Radwanska win. At this point barring my confidence in Konta beating Garcia I'll be honest and say I've got no confidence in making any other prediction!

Anyone to win except Venus and Ostapenko not a fan of either. I think Muguruza or Kerber to win title
