Can someone please explain where Hev's form has come from ??? I mean even in my wildest dreams, I couldn't have predicted this level from her over the last 2 weeks, brilliant today, much better than her R1, just a shame it's Vika next, who looks very good, still give her a decent shot on this form though. Pesky Vekic looked like she was going to do another Notts, but somehow Jo pulled it out, and as said earlier draw has opened up, Petch's player up next.
I wonder if it's helped being back in the Uk with all the players supporting each other and having lots of fan support too. I was really struck by how collaborative it all was at Surbiton. All the GB players, men and women, turned out to watch each other's matches. I know she didn't do anything at Notts and Birmingham but then she came back really strongly at Eastbourne and really could have reached the final, it was just a few points here and there and Wozniacki's serve holding out better in a few key points in the third set. It must have given her so much confidence going toe to toe with the sixth seed.
At Wimbledon shes had three things that have helped: fan support; coming into form at the right time and the pressure taken off because Jo and Andy are the ones expected to do well and anything Heather does is a bonus. It's lovely to see that massive smile back. Also I wonder if memories of her hugely fun and successful frolic in the mixed doubles has helped her seeing Wimbledon in a positive light. It's a shame she's got Azarenka in the next round. That might just be a step too far. But I'm really hoping it's helped her career to turn a corner. It really was gobsmacking to see her lowly ranking when she played so well at Eastbourne for much of the match. Although you could see how confidenice makes such a differenc, even there. She was doing really well in the first set and missed a couple of easy volleys and her game went off a cliff for a while til she re-grouped in the second set.
Rybarikova beats Ka Pliskova, giving her 15 wins from 16 matches on the grass. Her one loss came v Konta.
In our women's quarter, added pressure now on Halep, who will take over as frontrunner in the rankings, if she can get to the SFs, with first Heather and then Jo potentially in her way.
I would say it's a crazy-unpredictable women's draw, but this is now a regular feature of the women's game! Hope Heather and Jo can go far as part of it.
In other news, really hope the injury to Bethanie Mattek-Sands is less serious than it looked. I was unfortunate enough to be watching her match vs. Cirstea when it happened and it was horrible to watch and listen to.

I gather her work ethic is back to where it was, so maybe that's a factor as well.
Also, I wonder if it does not suit Heather's personality better to be working with a group of players and a group of coaches rather than just herself with a dedicated coach. She is a very social person and also one who's quick to get down on herself if she feels she's underperforming so the group situation may have just lightened things up for her.
Heather plays Azarenka in R3 which could be a fantastic match. I'm going on Friday, and if that match is on Centre Court I'll have no complaints.
Looks like Wimbledon listened to me . Looking forward to seeing Heather on Centre Court today. Hopefully she has a short memory and has not reminded herself of her previous matches against Vika.
I have a gut feeling Heather is going to win this one but then lose in the 1st round in defense of the Mixed title. Which I would readily accept if offered!

Shhh, don't say it. I've never seen a correct prediction from you.
