People with Skupski connections - who is currently coaching them? Ken Skupski embraced someone after the match, and the same person was watching Neal and Anna Smith in their mixed doubles (a hugely entertaining match). Is he their coach?
In all the time I have known them, they have never had a coach. ken has sometimes described himself as Neal's coach
One possibility might be Louis Cayer who is the GB Doubles coach and gets around to a lot of matches. He helps out when he is there but is not their designated coach.
I don't believe they have an official coach, although Ken Snr helps out on occasions.
I think money dictates at this level. Great win and the money will come in handy. Let's hope they get a bit of publicity and some sponsorships and recognition from this run
Brilliant. And actually, what a wonderful way for Jay Clarke to play on the 'main stage' at Wimbledon for the first time. Marcus Willis - whatever his tendency occasionally to make the younger player do the running - would be a super person to be on court with for your first match: relaxed and funny as well as talented. Jay Clarke looked, in the bits I saw, not only to be playing really well, but also as if he was having fun - which is the best possible way to begin your Wimbledon career. Congratulations to the two WC teams for a wonderful day.
Yes. Although the 'age' thing was quite funny (made me smile yesterday to see Liam doing the same mad scampering around, while Naomi was more 'go, brother, go' as she smiled serenely - enjoyed that match and wish them well), I agree that Marcus was a great partner for Jay and definitely helped him deal with the situation. And great to see that sharing/handing down of skills.
Well done to the Skupskis too - agree with paulisi that you'd think there was definite sponsorship material there, even if only of a local kind - it's a great story having the two brothers playing together and they're such likeable blokes.
Forgot to say yesterday just how good the Skupski's were, especially Neal. Ken did nothing wrong to get broken serving for it in the third but it took a lot of mental strength to start again and win the match.
Marcus and PHH have met before in singles. I was privileged to see that match in Marseille a couple of years back - qualies for the ATP250. Not much to choose between them that day as PHH ran out a winner 7-6 7-6.
