Just seen footage on the BBC of Andy walking very gingerly in practice. I can't see how he makes it through the first round if he doesn't recover quickly.
With Kyle almost by definition having a very winnable match in a qualifier, yes it would have been good for Alex to have got a good draw elsewhere and see them both going for it in R1.
Shame about the draw with alex and Kyle, im not saying for one minute that Wardy will win but if Kyle isnt at the races and Alex continues his qualifying form it could be a very close match!
Anyone else predicting some first round surprises?
It's a good draw for Alex if you think about it. Kyle not good on grass a bit of a leveller really. Alex has been playing to a challenger style level in qualies and Kyle......
It's a shame about the draw for Kyle and Alex but, as said, it's a decent enough draw for Alex (against a player who's good but not at his most comfortable on grass) and a decent enough draw for Kyle (Alex is on great form but he's still ranked what he is and there were several qualifiers who you would really, REALLY want to avoid).
Interesting to read the interview with Alex saying that his match against Soeda was the best match he's every played in his life....
And interesting to read wolf's post the Baggie has retired in his match today...
I remember Baggy pulling out of a match in Nottingham a couple of years back and was then fine for Wimby, so possibly precautionary given his history.
Actually don't mind the Kyle/Alex draw, given Kyle's struggles at Wimby, if he wins will be huge for him, and if he doesn't it'll be a win for Alex and would also be huge for different reasons.
Tough one for Cam, but should get a nice court.
Have a sneaky feeling Andy will be ok, but his form maybe more of an issue.
I also don't mind the all British clash for similar reasons, particularly with some tough matches for other Brits. Baggy retired today against Sugita, which might help Brydan's chances. Although Yuichi has had a good grass court season winning Surbiton and reaching the Antalya final he has never won a grand slam main draw match, and won't have much time to readjust from Turkish conditions.
Just watched Alex Ward's interview on the BBC website about his Wimbledon exploits so far and his upcoming match with Kyle. Alex simply can't stop smiling throughout the entire interview. Quite right too. Good on ya, Alex.
