I find it hard to get excited over today's result because of the split loyalties. Kyle was so nervous in the 1st set given he was on a hiding to nothing. He had never even won a set in four previous attempts, at Wimbledon let alone a match, so you can imagine the demons that would have been going through his head (not to mention the press) had he lost today.
Alex on the other hand had nothing to lose and came out firing on all cylinders. I thought he was terrific for a set and a half, but then ran out of steam. Perhaps the exertions of 2 pre qualies and 3 qualie matches caught up with him. But he certainly showed the world that he can play. I am delighted for him that he will not only get the £35.000 for making the 1st round, but also the knowledge that he fully earned it by coming through qualifying as opposed to being given a WC. So well done Alex on a great campaign.
Once Kyle got the early break in the 2nd set though, he began to loosen up and play the way he can. By the 3rd and 4th sets, the difference in quality showed and Kyle fully deserved to run out an easy winner in the end. I just hope Kyle can stay that relaxed for his next match because he was hitting the ball really well in the end.
Alex has done so well - hope he can stay fit and healthy and push on from here.
Really pleased that Kyle has got the first "W" at Wimbledon and hope he can get some more!
Alex needed to make that backhand passing shot on bp when Kyle was serving for the 2nd set. After that his level dropped alarmingly and Kyle took over completely.
Alex played very well for a set, but suddenly lost alot of the venom on his shots, looking forward to seeing him climbing the rankings again, fingers crossed he can stay 100% fit, nice interview with his mum. Kyle played a solid match once he got on top, hopefully he can play loose against Monfils who's looking quite good on the grass at the mo, and should be able to test him, if he can stay relaxed.
Pleased for Kyle, Alex was just the type of draw he needed to get a head of steam up! Alex has made the most of the opportunities he was offered and obviously loves being a professional tennis player. The last two weeks are something nobody will be able to take away from him. I generally feel the wildcards have worked out well this year at a number of levels.
Ofner's previous outing was beating Jay in 5 sets in the FQR.
Oddly enough I was just looking at that Indy - never thought he would come through qualifying at one point but he must have played some good stuff. Suppose he had nothing to lose today. Or was Bellucci really bad?
