So disappointed Tara lost
To be expected from recent results
Yes, I picked her to win but was very far from convinced. Her form has not been good and who knew how just being here would effect her. I hoped determination might help see her manage to raise her game.
Very sorry Tara ( and I think wrong ) that we will not see you at Wimbledon.
Harriet became rattled. She disagreed with various calls that were fine and has allowed her opponent
to come back into the match.2-5 in the second
This isn't the first time recently that Harriet has been described as arguing re calls and last time the poster also said they were generally fine. And it clearly doesn't help her.
A few folk have said that she seems generally a bit quiet, maybe even shy, and maybe being more assertive in time might help her, but this doesn't seem to be the way.
I do hope that she can come back and get her match won. Be very good for her and us ( it ain't going too well generally ).
There were a couple of close calls after that, but she seemed to deal with those OK. Hopefully a chat with her coach during the break will rest her mind for the last few games.
I remember when I watched her two years ago, she had a spell when she got a bit rattled for a few games when things weren't going to plan. Seems to have changed a lot for the better now though.
Overall Harriet was very assertive and attacking in her play and looked much more of a 'presence' on the court than I remember. Really at a set and 2-0 up it looked like she had this match sewn up but at 3-2 with a break she played a very wayward unfocussed game and got broken and just seemed to lose her grip on things for the rest of the set - questioning lots of calls, hands going up in despair if her opponent hit a good winner or she was outmanoeuvred, gesticulating at the corner of the court where her support group were sitting. Really silly stuff and it all stopped her concentrating on the match itself and made her revert to just putting the ball back in court in the hope that her opponent would miss. Picked herself up at the start of the 3rd and started going for it again and looking really focussed. Trouble is, her opponent is playing better by this time and the match is tougher than it was before she went walkabout.
During her good spells she had some fine ground strokes with great depth, especially the backhand (although backhand to backhand was a bit risky as opponents backhand was also her strength) and moved her opponent about the court well. First serve not bad but will need to improve as she goes up the rankings. 2nd serve could be a bit of nothing shot and duly got the treatment. Don't think I saw any double faults.
Harriet having to really dig deep to stay in this match, CB looking the better player, I agree that any shots that are close to lines she does tend to believe are called against her, not sure if that's just hopeful thinking, or she genuinely believes she's had a bad call, I'd suggest more of them are the former. Serve like Gabi's is a weakness, but ground shots on this surface are very effective. CB has grown into match, and you feel in order to get over the line here she'll need a bit of help from her opponent, fingers crossed.
Tara just in that spot at the moment where the evenly contested matches are going against her.
Shame about Katie, as she looked to be right back in it after set 2, before being bagellled in the 3rd.
Nice start for Eden who is in form, and making the bookies odds look wrong so far.
Tara's current ranking in singles is 216. I can't think of any other British player in the last 20 years that hasn't had a MDWC with this high a ranking. Can anyone else think of one?

Maybe Boggo, when the LTA and / or AELTC perhaps just gave in to media comment on his number of R1 exits with WCs.
Tara clearly has had nothing like as many and reached R2 just last year.
To qualify by ranking for a singles qualifying spot and not get a MD WC is very unusual. Though Sam Murray wasn't too far off that last year with her PR but got absolutely nothing when she was also back performing well on grass - too well to get to the Q WC play-offs.
Oh to be a fly on the wall when the LTA were discussing Tara. I take it that they did !

Yes, Boggo was ranked 161 and had just come through 3 rounds of qualifying at Queen's when he didn't get a main draw wild card in 2010 - that was the year he went out to Mahut in qualifying, 24-22 in the 3rd.

Freya/Tara were due to play together in Notts, so I wonder whether the fact that they had to scratch due to Tara's foot problem, went against them getting one together.
Haha how could I forget about my avatar like that, of course Boggo, but for good reason I guess. Bar that I imagine for anyone under 25 it must be rare.
Tara loosing here shows she should not have had a MDWC. Hope we can get a few wins through now.
Or maybe she couldn't handle the pressure of having to qualify? I can understand that with players from all over the world hungry to gain a much coveted spot in the main draw coming three rounds of qualifying is far from easy. Would Katie Boulter or Laura Robson or even Naomi Broady have made it through qualifying if they had to play it?
