Wimbledon Ladies Qualifying

Great performance by Maia must give her confidence for the future. However how many times do our girls lose close three setters in Wimbledon qualies ie Harriet(twice) Freya now Maia Is Karen Cross still the last lady to qualify over 20 years ago

It is very frustrating, though our girls in qualifying will almost always be outranked, often by a long way, and their opponents, apart from on a week to week basis being generally better players, can no doubt bring more experience, more nous, to such tight matches in what for our girls is such a big occasion.

So I guess I'm saying that I'm not sure that there is a particularly general intrinsic issue here for our girls, but relative to their opponents an understandable one in Wimbledon qualifying.

And probably slightly less nerves and tightening up at the critical moments too...

Sort of.

Yes, it is Karen Cross that was our last Brit lady to qualify successfully.
But, no, it was not quite over 20 years ago yet. It was in 2001. She won a round in the MD too that year.

I think this is correct for Wimbledon match wins and qualifiers for the last 50 or so years

Tara apart the rankings difference was between 104 and 416 places, and likely to increase with progression, let's face it if you had a realistic chance of qualifying you would have a MD WC

IMHO it's these close matches should be won if they are to progress. On here there is too much oh that was so close what a shame hopefully it will give them confidence. No they lost. They get nothing for losing. Same with Robson some of you continually say she's getting there. Well two years later and she is still around 200. Stop congratulating losers.
Well done Dunne.
Tara. Going nowhere
Swan. Still young
Gabi. Now knows what she needs to do to progress. Hope she hasn't lost heart from last 2
Harriet. Needs to win these close matches.
Freya. No idea where she's going
Maia. What a waste but still a loss
I look forward to next lot. Gemma. Holly. Emma. Esther etc.

Just my opinion
