World University Games, Chinese Taipei 2017

I think the 2015 games were posted in the Junior thread. But as they're not juniors, maybe the general tennis part is better. (Can't find 2016 games but Joe Salisbury and Darren Walsh got gold medals in the doubles).

Anyway, the teams have just been announced, for the end of August, and include a lot of players we actively follow so it'll be interesting to see how they all do:

Men

Luke Johnson, Mark Whitehouse and Jack Findel-Hawkins

Women

Emily Arbuthnott, Emma Hurst and Olivia Nicolls

OK, so this post is for the 2017 European University Games but close enough.....

Congrats to the University of Stirling Women's team who took silver medal, behind the University of Bordeaux, losing 2:1.

Nice photos all smiles! I think they may have a great time! It will be interesting to see the quality of the opposition, I would imagine most players will be US college based.

Well placed in here Coup Droit Id say, maybe hide the doubles in the juniors though for me would seem more fitting )

I can understand why it is is on the BUCS website and applaud the overall drive to increase the performance level and profile of domestic University tennis only 50% of the team are from British Universities, is that part of the criteria for selection? I presume Julian Cash didn't want to go and obviously Cam has other priorities.

Would not our strongest candidates all be from the US College program?

Well, I would have though that Maia L was our strongest/second strongest female candidate and she's obviously at uni in Scotland.

I don't know how they select though.....

What is Maia's current situation by the way? She has been playing a lot of ITFs this year.

Don't know how they did it this year but previous years they have sent an email to all those who would qualify asking them to say if they want to attend the NTC for trials (mid term for US students) and then selected from those who put themselves forward.

Thanks for the link, though maybe not the best line -  "Hurst's most recent outing was at Chiswick, where she partnered Japan's Yurika Miyazaki to the last 16 of the draw".

Yep, the L16 is R1 ( with no qualification draw ). Though they did have a very competitive scoreline against the #2 seeds.

All the best to Emma and all the rest of the team.
