Week 26 - WTA Premier ($819K) - Eastbourne, GB Grass

Really good mentally from Heather today - yes, she had loads of break point chances, but the key thing is to not let that get you down; she didn't, and she was able to close it out.

Really pleased with what I saw.

Well done Heather.
Sadly, she has this unfortunate habit of pulling out these good performances in the rare 64 draw Premiers, where you get almost no reward for them.
Still, it is to be hoped that the win alone should pay dividends in terms of confidence, belief and so on.

Good to see.

So Cibulkova next, reigning champion here of course but not been in great form at all on the singles court ( did win a doubles title with Flipkens the week before last ).

I had to give up watching that - it was making me too nervous !

So glad she pulled through.

Really tough fight from Heather. At 4-4 in set 2 there was a 20 minute game with so many game/break points that Tsurenko finally won on serve, then the almost inevitable loss of the next service game from Heather to lose the set. That she continued to battle was a real tribute to her fighting spirit - a really good win after breaking and being broken back so many times.

Something of a development in the match to decide Johanna's opponent: a withdrawal has meant a LL place, and that has been taken by Cirstea, who now plays Siniakova to be Jo's R2 match.
I really hope Siniakova comes through, as I don't think Jo needs all the nonsense from Fed Cup to be re-litigated right before Wimbledon.

Do you mean re-ignited ?   - Talking of litigation, what happened to Nastase eventually?

2-6, 4-3...

On BPs, Pliskova has 9/9, defended 7, taken 2...

Well... both.
The Romanian anti-Jo side will be arguing about the grand conspiracy where the officials were all GB, and Nastase did nothing wrong, and it was all Johanna's fault for maliciously, calculatingly and deliberately crying to gain unsporrting advantage etc...
Re-litigating the 'case.

The whole affair will be re-ignited, just by their meeting.

Which, now, sadly, is going to happen, as Cirstea defeated Siniakova.
A very bad time for it, at Jo's home event, and crucial to her Wimbledon build up, this threatens to ruin both, no matter how well Johanna herself handles it, you can't contain and constrain all variables around somethign like this.

naomi into 2nd set tiebreak.  from figures, played a far better set of tennis than 1st set.

Naomi won the tiebreak 9-7, however she's making no impact on KP service games, and has had no break points.

I'm not watching, just looking at the scoreboard. But Naomi is 0/10 on break points against 3/3 for Pliskova, so she's making an impact, just not converting.
