not sure anyone had the slightest idea how to deal with a head injury for that fall, including Jo. Kerber seemed more concerned than any of the staff, demanding 'get someone out here now'. Glad Jo is ok
Heather lost her way after a strong start but regained her composure when a break down in the third and finished very strongly, winning the last 4 games with controlled hitting as Barbora lost her touch on the drop shots which had been previously been effective for her - and the Czech didn't endear herself to the crowd by overplaying understandable concern about slipping on the dewy surface.
When did we last have 2 in the semi finals at Eastbourne.
Maybe never.
Certainly not before 1976. I've checked every draw back to then.
The event only inaugurated in 1974. I can't find draws for 1974 or 1975 though. But, as Virginia was in the final in 1974, and won it (our only win) in 1975, it's possible there was another Brit SF in either of those years.
Otherwise our only SF apart from Jo & Hev recently were: 1982 Jo Durie - lost to Navratilova 1979 Virginia Wade - lost to Evert

Delighted by both wins. But was slightly horrified that Ms Konta still had to do a post-match interview. Head injuries are difficult to assess on site - one would have thought this was a case where the first concern should have been to get her off the court and to a doctor. And brava to Ms Kerber for her concern and for going straight over to insist on medical staff.
Interesting last few minutes to the day there, I was just relieved that Jo hadn't damaged her leg badly, and the head hitting the turf, was possibly more shock, than any concussion, she certainly played a great couple of points after, and seemed Ok after. As for Hev, what a tournament, seems to have rediscovered her mojo and hopefully she can now kick on here and get back to a ranking which is more in line with her true ability.
Congrats to all three women - four in fact, with three and four being Anna and Nicole in the doubles.
Having seen Jo's fall onto the back of her head, I hope she is properly evaluated after her match for any lingering effects of concussion. I didn't like that fall at all and was quite surprised she actually finished the match, which although she won the two remaining points she still seemed dazed at the end, and yes, should not have been doing any interviews at all.
Jo's wins today against two top and tough players were excellent; somehow I am not wholly sure that she will be out to play Ms Pliskova tomorrow, in what would be another tough match if she is to make it.
Fantastic for Heather too, even if her opponents don't quite fall into the same class as Jo's. Nevertheless the best day for Heather for quite some time following on from her great earlier win against Cibulkova.
Nicole and Anna up to 53 and 55 respectively in the live doubles rankings and for BOTH this will be a career high, suggesting the partnership is really working out equally well for both. May it continue. The second week playing against Hingis and Chan shows the levels they've reached, and hope they can continue to be upwardly mobile through the hardcourt season too. Good luck to all tomorrow, and hope Jo doesn't have any lingering effects of that horrible bang on the back of her head.
I have some vague recollection of 2 British women, likely to be Jo Durie and Annabel Croft both getting to the semis in Brighton but cannot find anywhere to look it up.
(Oops just spotted in on twitter 1985)

I'm so excited as have got tickets for tomorrow. Can't wait to see Jo and Heather play. Wish I could see Dom as well but unfortunately playing at same time as women's matches. Some bloke called Djokovic also playing.

The LTA said never before. An incredible day for the GB women (and Nicole, who I sense is quite enjoying her status as an honorary Brit!) - also the first time since Sue Barker beat Chris Evert in 1979 that a British woman has beaten a reigning world singles no. 1 - those two and Virginia Wade (more than once) are the only Brits to done that since the WTA rankings began.
