I was amusing myself (working at home) by trying to take a view on how well the GB men do versus last season in the 3 Challenger events, to try and ascertain if we manage to improve or not.
Anyway, last season we managed to get 12 match wins across the main draws in the 3 events:
Manchester - 5 wins: Alex Ward 2, James Ward 2, Ed Corrie 1
Surbiton - 4 wins : Ed Corrie, Dan Evans, Jonny O'Mara, Liam Broady - 1 win each
Ilkley - 3 wins : Brydan Klein - 3 wins by reaching the semis
So we had 12 wins in total last season, an average of 4 per event. Brydan had 3, Alex, James and Ed 2 each.
This year, with Surbiton done we have had :
Surbiton - 3 wins : Dan Evans 2, Cam Norrie 1 win
Nottingham - 1 win so far: Lloyd Glasspool 1 win. Apart from Lloyd, only Brydan is left in to play his Round one match.
Hard to say after 1 event but Surbiton didn't quite deliver as many as Manchester last season (1st events in each case, order of events has changed slightly) and week 2 looks like it will be giving us fewer wins than last season as well. Hopefully Ilkley will provide a pick up although the entry looks stronger than in Nottingham this week

Safe to say your sample size is a little on the small size as you have suggested. Without Evos injury he may well have clocked up 5 wins on his own which would turn any conclusions on their head.
Interesting never the less to recall individual players and their progress but again the relative strength of the field and the draw will skew the data.

totally agree, was just amusing to take a view. Hopefully Brydan and Lloyd can add a win or two more this week regardless.
If we added in the ATP level events, then at Queens we had 8 wins: Murray 5, Kyle 2, Aljaz 1. At Nottingham we had 3 wins (Dan 2 and Kyle 1); and at Wimbledon we had Andy 7 wins, Dan 2 wins, Marcus 1 win for 10 in total - so Wimbledon was our most successful grass event.
Adding Challengers to ATP and GS on the grass, we had a total of 12 Challenger wins +8 Queens +3 Nottingham+ 10 Wimbledon = 33 wins in total in the GB grass events in 2016 . If we add in the Dutch, German events etc, Aljaz won a round in Holland - so 34 grass wins
Maybe that will give us a better benchmark for this season, 34 main draw wins across GS, ATP and Challenger level events in 2016
As an aside , individually Andy had 12 wins, Dan 5 wins (incl 1 Challenger win) and Kyle and Brydan 3 each (Aljaz had 2 in total).
Be interesting to look back in a few weeks and compare. So far we have reached 5 wins in 2017 albeit we are in events 2-4 out of a total of 11 (if we add in Newport for good measure at the end - we didnt get a win there last season).

Quite possibly - wasnt really meant to be a serious analyis, just a look see. Good easily count that up also. Clearly way too early in season to do that but can take a look in a few weeks time
So week 2 of 7 on grass ends with GB performances showing 8 wins main draw in the grass events v 10 last season.
Our winners this season to date are Bedene 2, Evans 2, Glasspool 2, Norrie 1, Klein 1 - 5 winners. In 2016 A.Ward, J. Ward, and Corrie all had 2 wins and we had 7 players having won a MD match or more.
So, all in all, this season slightly slower start than last but Queens (Murray, Edmund, Norrie, James Ward MD and Corrie and Broady Qualies), Halle (possibly Bedene, did he get in to Halle, or Queens) and Ilkley (various players) provide a chance, to improve on last seasons haul of 11 wins in week 3 of the grass. Personally I cant see us getting more than 11 wins this week and probably a few less. I am going to say 9 across the week as my guess.
ok... at end of this week last year, GB men had won 21 matches on grass. So far this season, GB men have won 10. I cant see Marcus and Jay winning another 11 matches this week (!) so to be frank...it is down a long way.
Someone posted above about how many players won matches as a measure. At the end of Queens week last season, 11 players had won matches. this season, it is 7 players and as Jay and Marcus have already won, it will be 7 players still on Sunday.
Whichever way it is cut, it is down by some way on last year...
Interesting. I assume we're down quite a bit on Challengers based on last year. As the level of competition has increased due to the prize money as I've said before possible to the detriment of our Players.
At the Challenger level, we are 8 wins so far this year v 12 last year. Potentially, marcus and Jay could close/lessen that gap but still looks like being circa 25% down I would guess, maybe 33%.
Last year, 7 players won matches at Challenger level, 6 have done (and will have done) this year. So similar spread just fewer matches won. Last year however, Brydan reached a semi in Ilkley, no one has got past the quarters this season although Dan may have done had he stayed fit, but it does suggest the improved money has impacted the Brits negatively from a wins perspective. When we add up prizemoney won though, we may have done reasonably close to last season although I dont have the data or impulse to work that out!
Now our involvement in Nottingham is over, the GB main draw performance ytd is 12 wins versus 24 last season at this stage, so exactly 50%. 7 different winners v 11 last season.
At Wimbledon last season we had 10 wins, 7 from Andy. We would need to get 22 wins this season to draw equal on the grass season as a whole, unlikely i would suggest.
At Wimbledon Qualies, we had 7 wins last season, 7 this season as well as we are currently playing the FQR matches with a chance of 3 wins.
Nonetheless, and I am sure there are good reasons we could debate, this season is currently a long way off performance wise against last. For the men at least.
Just thought I would add a final update to this. At Wimbledon last year, GB men won 10 matches in singles, which is the best we can do this year if Andy repeats.
So far, ytd on grass we have won 18 matches. this could max out at 22 wins. Last season we managed to string together 34 main draw wins on grass. Whichever way we look at it, a big drop.
9 players have won matches, 11 did last season.
So far this year, the winners are:
Bedene 4
Murray 3 (possibly rising up to a max of 7)
Clarke 2
Evans 2
Glasspool 2
Norrie 2
Klein 1
Willis 1
Edmund 1
Personally, I feel that is a disappointing return. Dan's well reported issues may have taken a few wins off, granted. Cam Norrie and Jay Clarke are clearly something to look forward to for the future, and Kyle doesnt much like grass, but overall it feels like a poor year for GB on the grass
