Of course, the ranking in itself is not crucial and as long as she has progressed as a player after today's match that's all that really matters.
But given we have so few 15k tournaments, it's far more cost-effective to travel abroad when you have a low ranking (and so will be seeded in the qualis or maybe even make the main draw) than to be unranked.
Very sad for Hannah McColgan - her game is very appealing to watch.
