RE: Fed Cup

I don`t think we`ve won the group yet - as far as I`m aware it depends on whether Bulgaria beat the Ukraine. If they do, and we were to lose to Hungary, we`d both be 2-1, and I`m not sure what happens then.

According to the Fed Cup site :

In Pool A, Slovak Republic is 3-0 and has won the group.

In Pool B, Serbia - Montenegro and Denmark are both 2-0. They will play each other to decide who tops the group.

In Pool D, Israel are 3-0 . If they beat Belarus they stand a good chance of topping their group. Romania is 2-0, with 2 ties to come. This group is larger than the others, with 5 teams, rather 4.

If we top our group, we will play one of the above countries in the World Group II play-off.

if Bulgaria do win, and we lose, then i think its down to who won against who in the top 2, so in GB's favour cuz GB won against Bulgaria. that how it worked out in the final standings at the WTA Championships.

That sounds logical . If it comes down to that, I hope you`re right and that they don`t resort to some stupid rule or other.

If Bulgaria beat Ukraine and we lose to Hungary, Hungary go through because they beat us...if Ukraine beat Bulgaria and lose 2-1 to Hungary we will go through because we'll have won the most matches.

Bally has beaten Nagy 6-2 6-1 so it's looking good for us to get the win and go through with a 3-0 record anyway.

When will GB next be in Fed Cup action ? Is it not until next spring ?

It really was an excellent set of performances from Elena this time around, especially considering it was on clay and she was in a lot of pain with her back. Having done so well and won the group it seems kind of harsh that we didn't get to move up to a different group.
