Awful so far (even though all but two of the Brits playing non-Brits were lower-ranked than their opponents) - but Beth winning the 2nd set v Birrell ends today's run of 16 sets lost in a row in GB v non-GB battles (though it looks like another 2 sets are about to drop very soon too)

Not saying that there is not much bubbling outside the top 25 just now, but Laura D has recently entered that top 25 and after this week will be clearer in that position ( #25 on 10 points, #26 to #28 on 7 points ) without adding a ranking point since last November.
OK, I am saying that
With Jodies' QR1 win for now #23 and #24 ( Jodie and Emily Appleton ) are on 14 points. And these are two that hopefully will be on the up. Below the top 25, Fran Jones will be #30 on 6 points.

Not sure any of those loses are a surprise though? Freya has been out of form, maybe Eden losing to Lily?
Yes, I don't know what's up with Freya at the moment, she looked great last year. Hopefully she can turn things around soon. Eden's loss was another rankings upset, though Miyazaki has been at college in the US (and doing well), so who knows. Beth also lost to a lower-ranked player, but only 16 places below her and at least she won a set. You might expect the odd GB grass court 'specialist' (Emily?) to make up for those upsets in a normal year. It's the lack of sets won that's the worst of it though.
Nice win for Katie in QR2, anyway, against a player who beat her in Albuquerque last year.
