But still great that Anna got in and won a match to add another 130 points to her recent good total ( now 585 since the end of April and 560 of her current total of 1205 counting ranking points ).
Well done Timea - SF, QF and SF so far in her last 3 years at R-G. It was probably quite a good thing she found her way back to this tennis lark.
And meeting her in the SF the intriguing feisty presence of 19 yo Jelena Ostapenko. I admit to kind of wanting to see her do well ever since Naomi went so OTT about her Auckland 2016 bit miffed casual toss of her racket to the side which could apparently have had absolutely tragic consequences for a ball boy once he appreciated that it had inadvertently ended his way and oh my gawd contacted him. Well done Jelena too.
Tomorrow 3 of the top 6 ranked ( now live top 5 since Muguruza has hugely dropped down ), Pliskova, Halep and Svitolina, plus Caroline Garcia, try to make the bottom half SF.
From a pretty slow start to the year Simona Halep has barely stopped winning since that Fed Cup tie. Including the Fed Cup that's 20 wins and 2 losses and into the R-G final against Jelena Ostapenko.
She will take over from Angie Kerber as WR 1 if she wins her maiden Slam title ( clearly would be a first for Jelena too ), being already sure of taking the race lead.
Interesting final so far, quite exciting. But never have the great match's like the men do in Grand Slams. You need five sets.
Never understood why the women players have never pushed for equal sets as men like they have in all other areas eg Pay

I've always thought that for scheduling reasons, the grand slams would rather keep things as they are, particularly Wimbledon.
I know that's the reason, but if they really want equality in everything, they would fight for it, and pressure would build so that grand slams would have to adjust schedules.
A star is born, well done Jelena. I just caught the last couple of games where nerves got so much the better of her she just smashed winners past Halep
She wins 4-6 6-4 6-3 in what appears to have been a very good match.
I'm sorry in many ways for Simona. But Jelena could be just what women's tennis needs right now. Young, feisty and good.
As I have said I'd forget that incident against Naomi early last year, much ado about nothing, but I am aware that she has got under a few players' skins, so control that side, mature, but still keep much of her character and all's good.
Pleased to see Jelena confirming the exciting potential she showed when winning Wimbledon in aggressive style in 2014 (have to confess though that I had completely forgotten Harriet's win over her the previous year)
My reasoning is more from the angle that don't get the real great match's that you remember for rest of your life, it's all the men 5 setters that stay with you. They miss the chance to make the women's game even more popular.
