Week 22/23 - Roland-Garros Main Draw Paris, France Clay

Could not have asked for a better start to the tournament than Petra on Chatrier, playing beautifully; playing at all.
An antidote to the petty vicissitudes of much of the tennis year to date, and the wider world beyond.
Inspirational stuff.

The doubles draw is out, and couldn't be much worse...

Broady+Sanchez v Hingis+YChan (3)

Watson+Rogers v Mladenovic+Kuztnesova (14)

Yikes!

No sign of Anna+

I'm not going to lie, there were some tears on my end before, during, and after Kvitova's win.

I see Hogenkamp has beaten Jankovitch in straight sets.

Very solid; unfussy, efficient.
Kept Hsieh almost entirely out of the set.
6-1

Down 5-6 in te second. Hsieh throwing a variety of drops, slices and angles, giving Jo a really good test. She plays baseline half-volleys brilliantly, so Jo is having to hit and rehit deep shots which would force errors out of nearly anybody else.

Hsieh plays an absolutrly inspired second set tie-break, winning 7 points in a row from 0-2.

6-1, 6(2)-7...

Hseih is a very clever player with deft touches

Jo in deep trouble now, sadly. Not looking good.

This is what I hate about clay court tennis. There are points where Jo hits 1 or more shots that should be winners but clay is so slow that being the aggressor is almost a disadvantage and it almost favours the person who can just keep pushing it back

I thought Hseih deserved to win Konta all power and finesse won the day

Konta is useless on clay but Hseih is dreadful on it too. Kind draw but not good enough today.

Onto the green stuff thankfully! Head up!
