For anyone a long way from London, just to say, the weather is truly horrible at the moment - raining, blowing a gale, cold.....

If it's any consolation, it is  bucketing down here in North Yorkshire. Then again, it always buckets it down here in North Yorkshire

It's called a British summer, no?

Pretty grim where we are, too. Winter coats in June, and all that. Still not as bad as the day of the Queen's Jubilee, though! I still think of that as the epitome of 'holiday' grimness - freezing cold, pouring rain, wind and even at times hail. (Lightened by the stalwart steadfastness of the Queen and Prince Philip amidst it all ...)

It is still windy in the Surbiton area, but the sun has come out.  The courts will dry quickly in this weather, so the girls may get some tennis in the evening. Such wind isn't ideal for tennis though.

Looks like no singles matches again today

I was surprised to see that play was only scheduled to begin at 1pm today - at which time there were two women's ITF matches to be played before any men's matches began. I know that it's still early in the week but it seemed like more of an effort could have been made to get more men's matches underway.

Doubles : 1 win, 3 losses. Just Joe and his newly found / found for him presumably temporary partner, the true Brit Brydan, through to the QF, winning a MTB 10-7. The Skupskis lost an 11-9 MTB.

Trying to play 2 rounds of singles tomorrow which will start at 1030 am and with a large dose of luck get them back on track. Good luck with that then.

I know it's not easy being head groundsman but it really wasn't handled very well today.

The covers had been left on centre court all yesterday afternoon and most of the morning until about 10.30. Even though it had been dry and very breezy.
So when the covers came off this morning the grass was very damp from all the condensation of the covers.

Hopefully, with no rain overnight, the grass will be dry to get going tomorrow. IF the rains holds off. Forecast is very patchy. And it was actually starting to spit a bit when I left this evening.

PS Only say 10 mins of the doubles but Cam Norrie looks rather exciting !

Was the doubles played in or out?

Managed to catch some of the doubles.
Shame for the skupskis- in truth the others probably edged the match but the skupskis saved a couple of MPs, played a great 2nd set tie break and raced into a lead in the MTB. They had MP on Brown's serve- he served a rocket, looked out, but no line judge and umpire gave it in. And that was that!

Then saw Brydan/joe vs baghdatis/sela. Superior net play by the Brits vs superior ground strokes by the others and net play won in the end, despite joe calling the physio to do with his finger at 8-4 up in the MTB. Joe is a real beanpole, needs to bulk out a bit!

Caught some of evo/glasspool doubles too. They looked second best, didn't have the fluidity of a more established partnership. Lloyd was sporting a rather odd hairstyle too!

Yeah and I was a touch miffed not to catch any men's singles. Didn't find out they had been shelved until I was en route.

Incidentally they tried to charge the full £11 when I turned up at 430, despite website stating £5 after 4pm, arguing that "play started late".... was having none of it though and they relented (apparently the lta had told the club they had to charge full price!).
To be honest, considering the strength of the field this yr (men's and women's), tickets are v reasonable

Cam 2-6 *4-1 Jaziri

Jay was meant to playing first up as well but it looks like his court was the only one not fit for play.
