Weeks 22-23 - Roland-Garros, France - clay

Ha, so evidently it was really Andy Murray out there. Hope he stays around.

Didn't see any of it, but a solid win for Kyle, who beats Elias 6-3 6-2 7-5

Elias isn't the most impressive tennis player out there but he clearly knows his way around a dirt court and Kyle's win over him was very proficient and clean. Well done, young man.

Elias beat De Potro last week so he must be playing OK.

3 out of 4 male Brits through to the second round isn't bad, and probably as much as we could reasonably expect.

Player Banned from Roland Garros - Accreditation Revoked

Last year, I saw Maxime Hamou play futures in Murcia and I described him as "enigmatic and flamboyant". Well, the same Maxime Hamou has just been banned from entering the grounds at Roland Garros for trying to kiss a reporter during a post match interview.

I sincerely hope he learns his lesson and doesn't turn into another Ilie Nastase.

Hamou has always been a bit of a ****

He's young - and allowances were made - but he's not as young as all that now (21?). Time to grow up.

He's the guy that Jerzy was so rude about after their match two years ago, because Hamou had blasted the ball back at him, off a service that was out, and then didn't say sorry (and partly because he said Hamou didn't speak even a word of English).

Mind you, Jerzy is maybe not the barometer of behaviour.....

He sounds like he may be of either Algerian or Morocco origin.  We must accept that lack of respect for women and womens' rights is part of Islamic culture.

You remind me of the Lewis Carroll poem:

"Speak roughly to your little boy,
And beat him when he sneezes;
He only does it to annoy,
Because he knows it teases"

You do it to get a rise.....

Vandenburg, if you are trying to be offensive and unhelpful, you are succeeding nicely. And if you aren't trying to be, then please be aware, for your own sake, that that's how it comes across.

I did have to laugh, CD, at your comment about Jerzy Janowicz complaining about someone else's behaviour. Carbonisation of pots and kettles does rather spring to mind ....

I suspect we might see Evo throw the towel in if he loses this set. Looks dead on his feet the poor lad!

Seems Dan got caught out by a retirement in the preceding match.  He had just eaten when he was called onto court and felt increasingly uncomfortable as he hadn't digested it at all and was slightly sick at the end of set 1.

Yes, I heard that too in his interview.

Doesn't explain why he would withdraw from the doubles though...

By the way, I noticed that Medvedev retired at 5-7 6-4 6-1 3-1 down so just 3 games short of a possible non retirement finish. So I wasn't impressed with Dan's eating too late story. If he did, he was unprofessional / stupid and had himself ( and possibly his coach ) mainly to blame.

I'm just stating what the average man on the street would have thought, having seen the video. It is the over PC people like you that are the death of freedom of speech.  The fact is that, there is a massive problem within the islamic community when it comes to respect towards women.  The fact that the UK has recently uncovered a major problem with grooming gangs abusing women, should make you more aware,  and surprise surprise, 92% of the grooming gangs (source BBC) were made up from a certain group........

You might be happy as larry with your lefty lurvie views in Kent reading Narnia in Wonderland, but when you do plan your next inland holiday, I recommend, Rochdale, Rotherham, Bradford, Blackburn and Oldham.

A Roland-Garos tennis thread is not the place to debate this.

Sexual assault is a problem, the vast majority are committed by white men acting alone. Perhaps you could continue an informed debate in a general discussion thread elsewhere.

This is not the place to discuss such a complex and serious matter, let's just keep to a trivial tennis tournament presently underway in a Parisian suburb.
