Yes, but I find it fascinating in the Slams. People talk about everyone except Stan Wawrinka ... and then (of late) surprise! He's in the SFs or the Finals ...
The fact that someone didn't win a lot of Slams before 2014 is irrelevant when his record since then is three wins and four additional SFs.
Nadal has been in terrifying form - so it's hard to see beyond La Decima. But they should be good SFs and a good final. And while I was off in my prediction of the first young player to make a big breakthrough - I'll stick with the idea that Thiem may be the first to win a Slam. Probably not here. But it feels more like 'a matter of time' for him (and Zverev) than a 'will he ever do it?'

Yes, Stan comes to the party in Slams. Much of the rest of the year I think he goes to the parties !
SF: (1) Andy Murray WR 1 vs (3) Stan Wawrinka (SUI) WR 3 (= CH)
H2H is 10-7 to Andy with their last meeting an Andy 6-4 6-2 win at last year's ATP tour finals. On clay it is 1-3 though Andy's one win was their most recent on clay and only previous R-G meeting, last year's SF 6-4 6-2 4-6 6-2

If Stan wins the French Open and matches Andy to QF at Wimbledon he could be World Number 1 at the end of it. Would be amazing flying under the radar.
As things stand taking off last year's R-G, Queen's and Wimbledon points and say adding a R-G SF for Andy and R-G title for Stan the guaranteed post Wimbledon points would be :
So Stan would also have to win Queen's without Andy winning a round there to effectively start Wimbledon in a live lead so that he only had to then match Andy to overtake him in the rankings.
Rafa would be closer to Andy in guaranteed post Wimbledon points if he wins R-G and Andy exits at the SF stage.
Rafa : 5375 - 90 + 2000* = 7285
* - illustrative R-G points
And ...
Novak : 7445 - ( 2000 + 90 ) + 360 = 5715
Roger : 5035 - ( 180 + 720 ) = 4135
Clearly any further R-G wins for Andy significantly strengthen his chances of holding on to his WR 1 position post this year's Wimbledon.
Got to say I reckon anyone would have taken Andy in the semis at the start of last week. Well done him and won today not playing that well, judging by the BBC radio 5 reporting. Novak seems to have imploded in the last set of his loss and considering a break it appears. Reckon he needs it, nothing to gain by losing like that and maybe a few months off will do him some good.
Novak points up to and including the French Open :
2016: 7950 ( Andy 4450 )
2017 : 1975 ( Andy 1930 so far )
Been tough going this year for both. But Novak has followed his drop off in the second half of 2016 with a first half of 2017 that bears no comparison whatever with last year's great start to the year. Ever since he completed that career Grand Slam it's not been good.
Thought Murray had blown that 1st set when he failed to put the point away at *5-4 in the TB. But I should never doubt his mental fortitude as from SP down,he played some sensational and gutsy stuff to take the set 7-6(6).
Looking very ominous now. Stan has turned up the heat and Andy has gone off the boil. That's seven games in a row for Wawrinka who leads 3-0* in the 3rd.
