Our old friend Pablo Carreņo Busta has just taken out Raonic 8-6 in the 5th.

He will lie in a live #8 position in the race after R4 is concluded.

I think we should adopt him as honorary Brit as we followed him from his rise 4 or 5 years ago through that amazing ITF 10k run he had. I ll certainly be cheering him on against Nadal. His own individual player thread too

Suspect this is tongue-in-cheek, Jaggy, but actually Busta had his own player thread long before it was a 'thing' ... the "Busta Watch" thread of blessed memory.

Wonder what he'd think if he knew that he has a core of GB fans as a result of his playing in the same 10K as Kyle Edmund all those years ago?! It's an odd way of gaining a fan base ... but I'm sure there are more peculiar ones. Anyway, it's pleasing to see him do so well.

Murray two sets to the good against Khachanov. All rather routine so far...

Andy up 6-3 6-4 3-1*

With so much of Andy's season having been anything but routine I rather like routine. So see it home, mate.

Meanwhile  Verdassco took the first set 6-0 against Nishikori. Winner plays Andy (or very unlikely Khachanov) in the Qfs

Just one measure of the task facing Pablo in the QFs.... he lost 29 games in that match , Rafa just 5....

Verdasco has really found some ominous form this last week.

Andy wins 6-3 6-4 6-4

Nishikori serving at *5-4 to make it one set all vs Verdasco.

Good win for Andy, no panic's. Seems to be settling in nicely now - is it having Lendl around has managed to help him regroup mentally? Certainly playing himself in although it gets tougher from here

Verdasco rather needs to refind his ominous form rapidly.

Nishikori leads 0-6 6-4 6-4 *3-0

I was kind of serious, support a European show our non xenophobe brexiteer side. And as you say the link with Kyle is there. I was aware of the old thread, I posted on it. He seems like a nice chap as well so let's do it I say.

Nishikori is someone I've never taken to, a classic tanker at times then comes back. It's a tactic I suppose but not a positive one.

I'd fancy Andy on current from to beat Nishikori, Verdasco would be trickier in a lot of ways.

Nishikori wins by the interesting scoreline of 0-6 6-4 6-4 6-0
