Yep, will be pretty gutting if one of our few openly-gay sports stars is not on show. Not that that should entitle her to anything, but it's frustrating.
The Tara not getting a WC and Katie Boulter getting one (which I agree she deserves and has done well) has made me think as I'm sure others have about other possible reasons why not.....
Given that right of centre old fashioned attitudes that perhaps still hang around.
You give them too much credit. Those old crusts are probably unaware of something like that if you are thinking of a bunch of blazered bods sitting around a meeting table at Wimbledon.
I don't the reasons why the decisions were taken but while I really like Tara and enjoyed watching her play some terrific tennis in last year's grass court season, there is an argument she doesn't deserve one this year for two, probably connected, reasons: her form really doesn't suggest she could do anything with it and she really doesn't look at all fit for a professional sports person. Whereas Katie B has really fought back from injury and looks desperate to make up for lost time.
I'm sure if she had shown any flashes of last season''s form Tara would have got one. Laura, while nowhere near her former best has shown enough that you can see her winning at least one match even in the main draw.

Yes. I think we saw the same match. At Surbiton? And her other matches don't seem to have been much better.
As said before, I feel she 'should' get one. But I can't feel too upset if she doesn't, given what she brought to the court.
Mind you, I saw James Ward play a truly pitiful doubles match at Surbiton (in 2015???). And he then went on to get a MD double wildcard. Hmmmm.
James Ward was also out of form last year when fit and got one and this year again in the men's. And Brydan Klein isn't on form either and has no pedigree on grass and is similarly ranked.
I do agree form and commitment to being in shape are hardly irrelevant issues ( and if the commitment has had some influence on Tara and Marcus not getting MD WCs well I don't think that's actually at all unreasonable if fair criticism ).
I still tend on balance to think most comparisons and precedents make Tara's non MD WC at least very questionable.
But if one or both of Tara and Marcus do end up still not getting one hopefully they do question themselves.
On these two it would seem difficult to see Marcus having more of a case than Tara. Both won a MD round at Wimbledon last year, but Tara is a lot higher ranked, and in their respective current races, and does actually compete regularly. Only "entertainment" could really swing that comparison to Marcus.

I really hope it's not because Tara's face doesn't fit. I think James Ward got ozone additional goodwill because of his efforts in the past in the Davis Cup. I'm not sure about Brydan. Maybe because there are fewer men than women at the moment eligible (not sure if this is true?).
Marcus I think has similar arguments against him as Tara. Really doesn't look fit enough to be a professional sportsman, but in case hasn't slogged it out on the tour, which to be fair, Tara has.
