Good stuff. Congrats to Katie and Laura, impressive in different ways

According to the stats Laura served 6 DFs in total ( 3 aces ), not bad over a long match, and I particularly noted the first set, albeit the one she lost. In that set she faced 13 BPs in all ( losing 3 of them ) and only served one DF ( 15/16 second serves in ).

And if the Japanese girl did DF on Laura's second MP it was evidently the poor girl's one and only DF.

Laura had lost the last 6 times she got to 4-4 in the 3rd, and I  think the key difference this time was that her serve held up in the last few games.

Absolutely thrilled to see both girls winning and particularly coming back from losing the first set. I wonder if it's helped them travelling together as they've both come back from long term, career-threatening injuries, and the issues that result from that, including fear of reinjurimg themselves, or just never reaching the standard they did previously.

Certainly with Laura, I've felt her difficulties since her comeback have been psychological, in just having enough self belief. Katie I followed on twitter during her long lay off and she was so delightful, following the progress of her fellow Brits and cheering them on. I've been especially keen to see her do well as a result.

A qualifier beats the second seed which means that Laura has the chance to make a $60K final without having to play anyone in the top 350! That's better than many $15K's. Right to take that chance.

As for Katie, I think that's one of her best ever results. She's beaten more highly ranked players, but given the stakes, and the comeback from a set down, this has to be right up there.

Something for Ms. Dunne too, who seems to need some sort of a filip, perhaps a bit of doubles success will be the unexpected kickstarter.

Great for both Laura and Katie. I'm assuming that this is Laura's first SF of the year, but I might be wrong. I didn't think Katie would get past Lykina, that looks impressive.

What a couple of super results

And Katy D and partner have won their doubles too, 6-1 6-2, and are into the semis.

Superb from them both.

Fair play to Laura especially, it can't have been easy grinding out results with the way things were going. 7th coach lucky?

Good stat and point. She only served 2 DFs in that whole final set. Yes, that leaves 3 ( half of her total ) in the set she won 6-0    Great to see how it has generally held up today.

I only saw the second set (should have watched more clearly I brought good luck!) and she was brilliant. Playing solidly to a very high standard. I guess her level fluctuated a bit more wildly in the first and third.

Congratulations to both Katie and Laura.

They are now both 2 wins away from their best ever title. (Laura's best is $25k, Katie's $15k).

Let's just hope that one of them does win it.

Great to see them both in the semis, and arguably Katie's in better form, we should have an all GB final, if everything goes to plan. Very weak event but all you can do is take advantage, and watch that ranking jump up.
