Another win by Laura could take her back inside the top 200.

Another win also from Katie would take her into the top 250 and she still has another weak 25k next week to add before grass season. If Naomi and Heather get back to Wimbledon direct entry this week then surely a WC for Katie.

And Jeremy Bates will obviously be pushing for it majorly so that'll increase the chance

I think this surface also counts as a sort of ersatz grass - and if so Katie has won over 50% of her total points on grass, or eqivalent.

Before Wimbledon, I think she might get a WC to Notts, as she's fairly local - and Naomi is away in Manchesterr that week.

Good to see two through. Shame that Katie and Katy had to meet so early. I fancy Katie's chances at beating the #1 seed

Not sure that the other likely / possible British MD WCs have / should have any effect on what WC Katie gets ( she will clearly get at least a Q WC and yes is putting an increasing case for a MD one ). It's not as if the MD WCs are likely to be oversubscribed especially with Sharapova's chances looking less likely.

There are a good number of British women in the 100-300 rankings range now if Wimbledon doesn't want to give Sharapova a MDWC but doesn't want to add to the situation by also having unassigned or 'Next Direct Acceptance' wildcards which there were a few of last year.

Maybe shouldn't have an effect but I think Jaggy's right that it will.

There were a couple of comments in the last years about not wanting to have a whole pile of MD WC to players who then get thrashed (fodder for a media frenzy).

But if some get in by right, you've got a bit of extra flexibility to have a few long-shot WCs

My best guess :Winners of Ilkley/Surbiton/Manchester if not already in, will probably get one, with the others going to Brits in this order Hev, Naomi, Laura( FedCup duty), Tara, Katie S if fit/in form, Katie B( if inside top 250), Gabi. I don't see any ohers in with a chance.

I agree with you Phil, but I hope Katy, Harriet, Freya and perhaps Sam are considered for QWC. Anyone else will have to fight through the playoffs for the two available from there.

Definitely, my best guess was for MDWC. I don't think the MD ones will be given unless 100% deserved, whereas the QWC's should be all handed out to the Brits either directly, or via playoffs.

Nobody has mentioned Mandy C  who has a good record of beating top players smile

True, and Mandy does play a handful of matches on grass every odd year, so she might stand a chance this year.
Not that she got anywhere with her previous two QWC, losing in round 1 in both 2013 and 2015.

Assuming there are initially just 8 British WCs ( MD + WC), as is normally stated in advance and practice, then if Hev doesn't get in directly then the 6 Phil mentioned will very likely take up 6 of these ( assuming MD ones for Tara and Laura, who will be / will likely be qualifying eligible ), leaving just 2 more.

So the initial consequences, now that Naomi needs a MD WC and Hev might, are that the qualifying play-offs will be loaded. Though then after the play-offs no doubt more qualifying WCs will be given to Brits in addition to the guaranteed two ( should be plenty spaces ), with the other two in the play-off final four probably being in pole position.

Gabi I'd say for one one of the remaining initial WCs ( qualifying ).

Edit : Ah, Phil mentioned Gabi as 7th in order in his MD WC considerations, which the addict agreed with. I had wondered about the addict not mentioning Gabi in other names for possible Q WCs duh. So we great minds all think alike re the leading 7 contenders. Form over the coming weeks I feel will be very important for anyone else to throw their hat in for any form of WC.
