I think that was the difference between a veteran and a relative newcomer at this level with Aljaz pacing himself better for a tough 3 setter. I did not see the match but following live scores it seemed as though Mager threw everything he had into the first couple of sets and was probably hyped up playing in front of a home crowd and when Aljaz broke back in the second the effort caught up to him.
According to Carole Bouchard, Djokovic v Bedene is the last match of the day session tomorrow.
The scheduling is odd, though. David Goffin had a huge match against Nadal on Saturday. Nadal and Thiem don't play until Wednesday, partially because they're seeds and partially (presumably) to give some rest. Cuevas, the other losing SFist in Madrid, plays his first round tomorrow. But Goffin was on early today with a long match against Bellucci, and is the first ATP match on central court tomorrow against Verdasco. Do they have something against him?

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but Roger Federer has announced that he is also going to miss the French open and is preparing for the grass court season.
