Week 24 -WTA International ($225k) Nottingham, Grass

Gabi can bank that experience obviously a 126 place ranking difference means nothing to her. It should fill her with the confidence that she is more than a match for anyone outside the top 50!

Vekic obviously knew she was in trouble hence all the medical time outs. I think Gabi just needs to adjust the mindset to one of you are trying to crush my momentum to I have really got you the ropes, reflect on how she got there and keep doing it.

Well that was good timing. Got home from work, put on the stream, and all I saw was a DF.
But well done Katie, just one off a CH win. (Taylor Townsend WR97)

Yay, Katie B   biggrin

Looks like at least for now 'live' she will be into the top 150.

Tremendous performance from Gabi, I really thought she was going to win in the third set.
Alas a few DF's at the wrong times made a big difference. And Vekic made several drop shots count.
Plenty for Gabi to be proud of, and still more to come I'm sure.

Jo one game away from setting up that all GB 2nd round match and with Giorgi going out, the winner of that would be the big favourite to reach the semi final. Who needs the win more? Both not in great form and Jo defending final points here, but Watson was unable to defend anything at Surbiton last week.

Watch Nara storm back here...

Jo wins 6-2 6-3

You've got to say that overall that's a pretty good day for the Brit's today at Nottingham (women). Jo and Hev were clear favourites but they both got the job done and that's not something we have said too often these past 12 months and one of those is now guaranteed a place in the QF.

Katie B won her 50/50 match to get her first ever WTA main tour win and now has a reasonably chance of joining Hev/Jo in the QFs.

Gabi will be gutted, but she can take a lot from that. She was a clear underdog and it looks like she pushed the defending champion all the way, breaking her numerous times and showed that she can live with people much higher up the rankings.

A little bit similar to Katie S. That was a more winnable match than Gabi's, but two tight sets and she will also be able to take things away from that.
