Shrieky grass wildcards.

Neither MDWC or QWC. Guy Forget has taken a courageous decision. Even Jeremy Bates might have forgiven him now.

"There can be a wildcard for the return from injuries - there cannot be a wildcard for the return from doping," as per French Tennis Federation chief, Bernard Giudicelli Ferrandini.

Way to go, Bernard !

Sounds grandstanding a bit, so un-French

But fair dos on the principle.

Surely sets the precedent for Wimbledon as well ( assuming she does not qualify for MD this week)

Well done RG. I thought they would go for the publicity. I'm so glad they proved me wrong. New respect for the French.

Congrats to the French for having the guts to take the right decision. Wimbledon - take note.

Thought they'd go for a compromise and QWC, but can't complain about what they've done here. Zero chance of a Wimby MDWC I'd have thought.

Well it's down the the powers-that be now - no more points gained as Lucic goes through 6-4 3-6 2-1 retired

Retired with an injury to the left thigh.  I'm sure a quick dose of Meldonium should speed up the recovery..

Monsieur Guidicelli Je t'aime.

Maria "Je t'aime...moi non plus.....(in a Salvador Dali spiteful barbe at Picasso sort of way. But very apt given the grunting)

Aren't the French Tennis Federation fantastique!

Good news! Downside is we will probably see her all over the grass season now - Nottingham, Birmingham and Roehampton and no doubt Wimbledon after that.

The Wta clearly disagree with the FFT decision. The thing about wild cards are they are surely at the tournament complete discretion and therefore they can do what they like. However, one inconsistent point highlighted by Russell Fuller is that one of the men's wildcards has gone to a guy banned for betting. There is a clear need for consistency on these things
