Apart from Davis cup he's playing turkey futures most of this year, so he's probably living at home.
he may have partner/children and not want to travel.
Well said.
It seems mean to criticise the guy. As Miriam says, it's well likely that his home life is an important factor.
Also, he may well have been asked by the tournament organiser to take part, too, to boost spectator turnout and give the local press something 'local' to focus on.
In case anyone was wondering, I wasn't criticizing the guy at all. If he is eligible, he can play where he wants. I was just commenting on the fact that he is going to be an extremely difficult opponent for anybody else at this level, given his pedigree.
Just one match of course but that does look such a really good win, following a decent R1 win, that just maybe it signals Ryan's pro career is ready to really launch. Well done
Wonderful that Ryan managed to close that match out - it looked very tight from following on livescores.
Although, as people have said, it's only one match, it's very positive.
Indeed, Ryan has a rather odd collection of results: he must have played 12-15 ITF events.
And only picked up 4 MD wins (as far as I remember)
Which, for a 'normal' profile, would probably be 4 unranked or lowly ranked players, a win here and there.
But Ryan has one win against approx WR 1400, one against WR 700, and two wins against WR top 300 players.
Although that might argue to major inconsistency, it also means that game is there, it's a question of getting it all in place in the right way.
Anyway, it's his first QF - so well done, that man !
