Steven to reassure you, it is completely acceptable for you to follow your pop star wife to the US.

LOL she'd be mortified if she thought I'd implied that was what she did disbelief

It's never too late for a career change .....

On a more serious note, delighted to see that Andy Murray d Marius Copil by 6-4 6-3.

I'd actually been concerned about that match for a slightly peculiar reason. I'd found (while looking for something else) a post by the excellent Foot Soldiers of Tennis which spoke about five players who needed a defining 2017: http://www.footsoldiersoftennis.com/2017/01/05/five-players-facing-a-defining-2017/  As I read through, I realised that three of the five had indeed had rather extraordinary defining wins: Donskoy over Federer in the Middle East (leading to the infamous auto-correct headline about Federer's 'Stunning Loss to Donkey in Dubai'), Istomin over Djokovic at the Australian Open, and (not quite in the same league) Hyeon Chung over Gael Monfils last week. The fourth? Copil. I was sincerely hoping he wouldn't join his peers in having a major upset here ...

The fifth for the record is Kimmer Coppejeans.

To confirm ...

R2/L32: (1) Andy Murray WR 1 beat (WC) Marius Copil (ROU) WR 104 (=CH) 6-4 6-3

His L16 opponent will be determined tomorrow, being either (LL) Coric who saw off Mischa Zverev or (Q) Herbert who beat (13) Pouille.

That's a fine-looking win over the dangerous Colombians.

Don't think they're favourites for that one.

L16: (1) Andy Murray WR 1 v (LL) Borna Coric (CRO) WR 59 (CH 33 from 2015

H2H is 2-1 in Andy's favour. His two wins are DC in 2013 and Paris in 2015 but Coric beat Andy in Dubai 2015.

If it looks like more info than I usually post when listing upcoming matches, it is because I have just copied them from Steven's tweet (Thanks Steven). But really this is just another way of saying, if there are any mistakes here, don't blame me wink

That's Andy Murrays last match in his 20s, changing of the guard time in tennis? Zverev, Thiem, Coric, Goffin all stepping up now.

It's actually looking unlikely Andy will be Top 4 never mind Number 1 at season end.

If I was Andy then I'd retire forthwith from clay. It's an appalling surface to play and spectate on and merely a necessary evil to endure if you wish to target ranking gains.

These weekly s*** shows getting duffed up by no-marks don't do anybody any favours and is just superfluous strain on a body that is clearly starting to creak a little. This latest one really extracts the urine, getting schooled by an individual on an even more alarming career skid than Kyle.

He'd be best off heading back to London, licking his wounds and getting sharp for the grass - a proper surface to play on and considerably more enjoyable to watch.

I generally enjoy clay court tennis. I probably prefer it to grass.

Just saying, I'll go now ...

This is getting all rather predictable, and somewhat depressing. I'm struggling to maintain interest in Murray at the moment.
