I'd disagree. Not the desired outcome, unquestionably. But both GB players lost to significantly higher ranked opponents, neither with a particularly dreadful scoreline. Bemelmans has been top 100 in the recent past, and has won one Challenger and been in the finals of another this year. So not, I would say, unduly poor losses.

A win from Alex Ward would be nice ...

Yeah I agree Bemelmans is a tricky customer and no disgrace in Brydan losing to him by that scoreline.

It would have been but sadly, Kim (whose career high is just below Alex's current ranking) won 3 & 4
