Kiki beating Kuznetsova in the SF means that Jo will stay WR 6 ( overtaking Muguruza, being overtaken by Halep ). All rather close around that spot. Halep certainly seems to have refound her mojo for the year, seems to have got going with a certain feisty Fed Cup encounter in her home city.
If Kiki wins the final she will pass the current top 3 in the race ( Ka Pliskova, Wozniacki and Konta ) to go race #1 ( Halep would just go #9 ). Anyone truly emerging this year among the ladies is a still unfolding unpredictable story ( with the varied views on that discussed above ), not sure that many would have seen Kiki up there in May but certainly there looks a window for many including Jo.
I see that Tiriac and the Romanian influence that run Madrid got together to stick a massive two fingers up to GB Tennis, the ITF & the WTA by having Nastase play a prominent part in the title ceremony, handing over the trophy and stopping for many photos laughing with Simona.
Steve Simon (WTA CEO) put out a condemnatory press release, but it won't come to anything.
He seems (even the Romanian tennis public to some extent seems) determined to be as deliberately and unapologetically obnoxious as possible, and to delight in any offense that is caused from such spiteful and wanton provocation.
There is even a local saying for this attitude: Am eu ac de cojocul tau (literally 'I have the needle for your coat', meaning 'I know just how best to make you suffer for this')

Data I post, opinions I offer, 'facts' I assert, are almost certainly all stupidly wrong.

The worst part about it is that the Romanians don't think he's done much wrong, certainly out in Constanta the local media were like, OK he maybe stepped over the mark a tad, but he's still a legend and a great guy. Halep was quite cosy with him at the prize ceremony, he's never going to change I'm afraid.
