Was pretty awful R1 draw to get and then clearly a very competitive match, but after all that one you want to win

Onward for Jo next week and Madrid day session in a few hours ...

Gutting (though I didn't expect JoKo to win before it started, so at least she made a real fight of it) - Siegemund won from a set down, and from *0-3 and *2-3 0-40 in the 3rd - it all went wrong after the clock struck 2am

Jo will now be back where she was before her Madrid 10 points from last year came off, on 4330 points.

She will be up to a CH of WR 6 in err today's rankings.

And was actually starting Madrid with a live ranking of #5 which for now she still holds in a tight list from #4 to #8, but with Muguruza and Halep plus others further down still to begin their Madrid campaigns.

I saw that Radwanska had withdrawn and Lucic-Baroni was the new seed playing Sharapova and thought initially maybe a bit of a story given some of Radwanska's comments.

But Radwanska hadn't been down to play Sharapova, the WTA jiggle things about more to in theory keep the draws even. It was Pavlyuchenkova who was due to play Sharapova but has been moved away to new pastures and Lucic-Baroni moved to that spot.
