Madrid Tie Break Tens

Looks like we have double Brit interest:

Womens Draw:

Keys - Kuznetsova

Radwanska - Muguruza

Konta - Halep

Puig - Sharapova

mens Draw

Dimitrov v Evo

Pouille v Verdasco

Berdych v Sock

Stan v Lopez

According to David Law, whole event is live tomorrow night on DAVE channel (is that Channel 12 on Freeview?) from 6.30 pm. Good stuff - a bit of fun and maybe Dan and Jo can do to their bank balance what Kyle did to his in London!

Very charitable of them to give a chance to a player outside the top 200, who is probably very much in need of a massive pay-check just to make ends meet at that level.

Yes it's on Dave (12) and Dave +1 (79) if you're not around early enough. Starts at 18.30-22.35

On the website, they have the top tiebreak performers listed in a ranking. www.tiebreaktens.com/tie-break-leaderboard/

Andy is top of the 52 week chart (comfortably) with 77%

Dan is 10th with 61.9% and Kyle 14th 60.9%

Which are quite impressive stats. I know some feel tiebreaks can be a lottery , but it is such an important part of todays game and if you can win 3/5 or 4/5 then I think that is a major strength and also shows someone who plays well under pressure.

I felt it was reassuringly good to see these stats

Pity. Dan played Dimitrov, was 8-2 down, fought back, had 2 MPs including one on his own serve when he DFed and then lost 14-12.

Fun to watch though.

Something Miles Maclagan just said on the Dave coverage about talking to Monica Puig whilst " on my travels with Laura Robson"...is Maclagan coaching Laura in some capacity? Or dating her??

He used to coach her a few years ago.

I don't think Evo will make it as a commentator once his career is over. They whipped him off the TV interview pretty quick after his "slip of the tongue".

Edit

I should add that Evo has posted an apology on Twitter.

I think this is (mostly) right.
Taken from somewhere some time ago, I can't remember exactly where, apologies to the original author; and supplemented:

Laura's coaches

  1. Alan Jones/Jo Durie, 2003 - 2007 (Dukes Meadows)
  2. Nigel Sears/Carl Maes/Olga Morozova (LTA / NTC Roehampton)
  3. Martijn Bok, Oct 2007 - Sept 2010 (scheduling difficulties)
  4. Patrick Mouratoglou, Dec 2010 - Jun 2011 (split "by mutual agreement" a week before Wimby)
  5. Zeljko Krajan, Aug 2012- May 2013 (unknown - but probable clash of personality/difference of opinion)
  6. Miles Maclagan, Jun 2013 - Oct 2013 (Laura did not extend his trial)
  7. Nick Saviano/Jesse Witten, Nov 2013 - Mar 2014 (usurped by Genie, leaving no time for Laura? Who knows? It's complicated and unsavoury)
  8. Mauricio Hadad, Mar 2014 - Jun 2016 (no discernible improvements in performance. Mutual agreement?)
  9. Colin Beecher/Lucie Ahl, Jun 2016 - Jul 2016 (only temporary for Wimbledon prep)
  10. Dieter Kindlmann, Feb 2017 - Apr 2017 (trial period "did not work out")

Jo was thumped 10-2 by Halep, who went on to win the whole shebang. Dimitrov won the men's.
