This is though only the second time she's failed to win a match at an event.
The other was the last time she was MD as of right in Wirral. Though, on that occasion, the loss was more understandable, as her opponent was ranked 500 places higher.
There really has been a distinct lack of ranking points in general this year from players ranked below our current #24, Jodie.
Jodie has so far, as of her latest one, earned 11 points this year. Then our 13 ranked players below Jodie starting with joint #25 ( Laura D and Fran S ) have accumulated 8 points among them this year from just 3 players : 4 from Manisha, 2 from Fran J and 2 from Eleanor. Neither have any unranked players added or got their first points. Thus as some points drop off some players have been rising in the GB rankings without any points this year.
No doubt there will be a bit of grass season activity pointswise, but in general more really looking forward to when more of the very promising young junior blood get in there and start shaking things up. Meantime though I do hope some of the existing crew can find upturns.
With the changes to the ITF circuit happening in the next year or two it's probably just as well, meaning that we won't lose that many players and those ranked outside the top 800 can perhaps play at a level more suited to their ability.
I'm actually coming round to the way of thinking that the changes are good as a tiered system makes for better competition and those good enough will come through. My hobby versus profession arguments segue nicely into this topic.

I was hoping Ms. Deigman might get some slight diversion from her singles slump in the doubles this week, as the draw looked reasonable - even, that is, within the constraints of the vagaries of $15K doubles (which some correspondents routinely deride).
But, the team lost their QF, 3 & 5.
