Week 18 - ATP 250 - TEB BNP Paribas Open - Istanbul, Turkey (clay)

Turns out Aljaz didn't need an SE, but he hasn't an easy draw by any stretch of the imagination:

L32:  (WC) Marton Fucsovics (HUN) WR 154 (CH = 135 in October 2015) vs Aljaz Bedene WR 68 (CH = 45 in November 2015)

If he survives that one (Fucsovics is a tenacious customer), he'll play the top seed, Raonic, in the last 16.  hmm

L16:  Nikoloz Basilashvili & Mikhail Elgin (GEO/RUS) UNR (0+68) vs (2) Santiago González (MEX) & Dom Inglot CR 112 (70+42)

Aljaz has been a bit short of tennis lately so probably just looking for more court time

I like Aljaz draw here - raonic is beatable on clay and the last 8 match up, possibly Tomic holds little fear. Go Aljaz!

If Raonic does not withdraw he is certainly going to be very rusty and the same cannot be said for Aljaz right now. I hope he does not look beyond Fucsovics though because as SC points out, he is a tricky player to get past.

Commented elsewhere Re Ken and Neal playing apart this week. Presumably as a pair, they would struggle for Fo entry, I wonder if we will see Ken and Aljaz enter the Fo together?

Aljaz is up 10 places to 58 in today's rankings.  smile

I doubt Ken and Neal would get into the French.

I'm sure Neal is over in the US where his other half is based. Ken on the other hand would prefer to stay in Europe, where he can easily get home to see the wife and kids.

Would be nice if someone rather than Aljaz stood up to the plate smile

I would prefer "as well as" rather than "rather than".

Long tough match and still doubles to squeeze in today. Not sure that is the best preparation for playing Raonic but maybe they won't be scheduled until Thursday.

Edit.  No such luck, they are on at 5 local tomorrow.  Here is hoping Milos needs a match or two to find his groove.
