Most posts on here are usually incredibly supportive of all GB players. I don't think it's possible to be a 'part time' player, some people may lack the funds to travel? These athletes give everything to this sport, sometimes for no reward. I have a lot of respect for their dedication and commitment. The 'keyboard warrior' comment I meant! but only for you Jaggy1876. I apologise if I offended you but you could offend players with your throw away comments, which is unfair. You must have some interesting holidays. Take a holiday and go and watch the effort these amazing athletes put into the game!
I've watched tennis at all levels watched ITFs in Australia, Portugal and UK, all Grand Slams bar the US. So I don't need a lecture on effort from erm 'amazing athletes'. Anyway we ll move on from your disrespectul insults and my 'keyboard warrior' stuff. Line drawn.
I too think it is insulting. Both to Beth, and all the other players trying to make their way.
Beth actually entered 25 ITF tournaments in the last 12 months, which is certainly not part-time. And perhaps you haven't seen any of the video clips of the training - the amount of work they put in is amazing. And yes, they appreciate all the support they can get - I have been thanked just for turning up and watching.
You get drawn against a WC, you play a WC. That's not anything you can affect. What's the problem? Maybe you lose to a WC. That's disappointing. What's the problem in saying so. Perhaps you beat A WC. No match is a foregone conclusion, no matter how reductively ine could pretend otherwise. If they were, bookies would be in big trouble. So, well done to you, and you have my congratulations, and wishes that you win the next round. Even if it's against another WC. You just try to beat the player in front of you, that's good enough for me. I presume they'll be trying to beat you too. Next week you'll perhaps get the top seed. And all the reverse of that will be true. It all smoothes out in the long run. But, we operate in the very short run. Of match-to-match. It's only natural to comment on every match, and the fortunes of each draw and each opponent. The alternative is to wait until the end of the year and do a weighted meta-analysis of draw strength probabilities and performance against some sort of benchmark. That's just not very practical.
Entering tournaments that offer direct financial reward for performance, pretty much exactly distunguishes them as professional. 20+ weeks a year of competition, more match days than a Premier League season (or, for you, Scottish PL season), spread over longer than the Premier League season. 50% of matches lasting longer than a PL match. But still a hobby?
What is it, if not time commitment and earning the living from the sport, that makes them professional? At what age should players get out of the sport then? If they're not... top 200? by 20? What if they're 201 on their 20th birthday, do they automatically become a hobbyist on that date (or whatever the date and cutoff are?)
Or can they just play for as long as they like and are able? And we'll support them (or not) win, lose, or draw a WC.

Data I post, opinions I offer, 'facts' I assert, are almost certainly all stupidly wrong.
Jaggy - I also find your comments very disrespectful.
Beth is full time and often travels with her brother and a coach to events and she seems to be having a real go at improving her ranking. She is from a real tennis playing family and enjoys playing the game. She is very serious about her tennis. Yes - she may not have the natural talent to break into the top 200 singles, but she is more than capable of improving her singles ranking and playing and winning matches at 15k and 25k tournaments.

In hindsight part time was incorrect, so apologies for that. The general points stand, disrespectful only by mistake not intention. Not really sure what respect or disrespect have to do with anything though.
And yes KK on the disrespectful stream regarding your comment I think Ruth Davidson has usurped me with her own horrendous comments today
Most of the opening was close, but Sarah Beth was on the wrong side of all of it, despite serving 91%+ on 1st serve.
Just got a toehold in the match with her first game, still a long climb back, 1-4*
