R16: Harriet DART (GBR) [1] 337 v. (WC) Mananchaya SAWANGKAEW (THA) UNR (=CH, 14yo; JWR 195 - JCH 190, Jan. 2017)
Alicia lost to Sawangkaew, 4-6 in the third, in QR1 last week in Hua Hin. The Thai then lost in QR2.
R16: (Q) Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 731 v. Sung-Hee HAN (KOR) 638 (CH 256, Jul. 2012)
Han lost in the doubles here to Harriet.
The point from that match will count, but unfortunately she has 2 dropping off next Monday. But the next round is certainly a winnable match
I think it's just a wee bonus to be playing another round on the holiday in Thailand, I don't think points other than having a ranking matter when you are part time for fun.

I think this is another dismissive comment that does the board no credit. Beth, I know, is serious about a tennis career, although I believe she feels dubs is more likely than singles in the long run. Just because she is not finding it as easy as she would wish or possibly even able to afford to play as often as she would wish doesn't, IMO, merit her efforts being rubbished.

Agreed, this hobby, part time etc stuff is getting a bit tiresome. Though actually the bigger point is that I feel it is really wrong and thoroughly disrespectul to different players no doubt trying to be all they can be.
Indiana you find it tiresome much in the same way I find it tiresome people comment on bad draws, and congratulating players for beating the local tournament directors son Wild Card etc.
A nice bit of variety and balance can be beneficial. As can a sense of humour as well.
I think calling these female players 'part timers' or suggesting they're just there for a holiday, fun?? or only capable of beating 'the unranked tournament directors son' is extremely insulting!
Beth just beat a player ranked 444 in 40 degrees heat after a 3 hour match at a ridiculous time 6 hrs behind the UK when most of us here we're still sleeping.
These female athletes put so much into their training, travelling, planning and performance..for very little in reward! they all deserve as much support as they can get, not unhealthy criticism from keyboard warriors

Of for goodness sake stop taking every comment as directed at a particular player, the above points are general, and they hardly merit your keyboard warrior title which I think you should apologise for that's a direct insult.
If you are going to go down that line every single person that posts is by definition a 'keyboard warrior'.
I too think it is insulting. Both to Beth, and all the other players trying to make their way.
Beth actually entered 25 ITF tournaments in the last 12 months, which is certainly not part-time. And perhaps you haven't seen any of the video clips of the training - the amount of work they put in is amazing.
And yes, they appreciate all the support they can get - I have been thanked just for turning up and watching.

The reason I picked up on your post was because it was directed at one particular player, one whom I know is doing all she can to realise her dream and if I were in her shoes and saw the post I know I would feel insulted and diminished. It's one thing to say someone is going to struggle to move up the rankings, has benefitted from some easy draws, doesn't have a logical schedule etc etc; but to flippantly say someone is using tennis for a holiday or a bit of fun to fill the time suggests a lack of effort which is something else altogether and I don't feel it is the kind of comment we should be making on a board which supports and celebrates (with criticism and varied opinions fortunately) all those making efforts to play under the British flag.

I don't personally particularly disagree with your first paragraph, but whatever, it's pretty harmless. We could be here all day picking up on different folk's nuances.
I don't think any of that really counters again thoroughly disrespectful comments about pro players doing their best, which I don't feel is harmless. There is humour and making fun of British players on a British tennis forum just because they are not likely to rise to the upper echelons. Players and their family and / or supporters don't in my view need to read unbridled positivity, but they certainly don't need to read that err stuff.
We can and do criticise players on the forum, and I know I do more than to some folk's tastes, but most here if going down that road try to do it in a still supportive mode. There I feel is the essence of this forum, ultimately supportive, and I don't think it needs that kind of 'variety'.
And you have more than once clearly addressed your hobby etc comments at particular players rather than generally.
Most posts on here are usually incredibly supportive of all GB players. I don't think it's possible to be a 'part time' player, some people may lack the funds to travel? These athletes give everything to this sport, sometimes for no reward. I have a lot of respect for their dedication and commitment. The 'keyboard warrior' comment I meant! but only for you Jaggy1876. I apologise if I offended you but you could offend players with your throw away comments, which is unfair. You must have some interesting holidays. Take a holiday and go and watch the effort these amazing athletes put into the game!
