Nadal might have a post Wimbledon cushion, arguably more likely. 810 points behind Fed ( who I believe is not playing again until the French Open ) I could see him ending the clay season more than 2,000 ahead of Fed. Fed would then probably be favoured to eat into a Nadal lead in the grass court season but maybe not. Anyway I don't see him coming out of clay plus grass substantially ahead.
Race at 24.04.17 :
1. Federer 4045
2. Nadal 3235
3. Wawrinka 1590 4. Goffin 1415
11. Murray 930 20. Djokovic 655
The big question is if and when will Murray and / or Djokovic get their years into gear and will they be the strongest in the second half of the year. It certainly could end all very close with as I have suggested a lower than usual points total for the race winner.
My completely, uneducated opinion has Rafa shooting his bolt after RG, fed bursting a gut to try and win SW19 and Andy/Nole coming on strong at Rogers/Cincy/USO/Shanghai/Bercy.
Actually, Dan never even won a challenger match on clay. I think Dan has taken advantage of favourable draws - good for him! I really didn't th ink he was going to win a single match in the dirt season. I think DT will be a step too far, but who cares! Dan must be feeling good about life right now. And Bob, you have a safe drive home, the report can wait until tmrw!
Thanks. Have just made it home.
Was going to put a match report up tomorrow but it seems as though everyone was watching anyway.
Brilliant return game from Dan to finish the match, absolutely stunning tennis, half-volley winner, running backhand pass winner down the line and backhand return winner.
That was due to be the punch line in my match report tomorrow
Don't know how it looked on the TV, but in real life it was stunning.
You all know that Bob enjoys a scoop. Not much of one this time but :
Nathan Rooney is with Dan this week as Mark Hilton is taking a week off. But there is no change in the coaching set-up. Hilts will be back with Evo for Madrid and beyond, but may well be accompanied by Nathan until the end of the clay court season.
I did joke to the guys that Hilts might be out of a job after this week, but Nathan, as modest as ever, credited Hilts (and Dan of course) for his current form. They all seem to make a great team.

I wasn't, and even if I was I like your match reports, so please put one up.
Thanks Bob for the reports and the insights, v interesting to read. Re coaching set ups, what has Andy got this week in Barcelona, is it Jamie Delgado alone? Ivan Lendl hasnt been mentioned much this season since helping Andy climb to top spot and win the Tour Finals, I wondered if anyone else got the feeling that Jamie is the real coach in the set up, Lendl's role is much more of an executive consultant than anything else?

As said above, no 1 could be tight at year end!
I would agree with this, can't see Rafa or Roger keeping up the pace post Wimbledon, could be a breakthrough year for Thiem or Goffin perhaps but we've been saying that for a couple of years now.
I'm in Portugal just now weather here has been very windy and I believe it has headed towards Spain. If the weather we have here is anything like what's headed Barcelona way a few hundred km away then we may see some random results. Dan Evans to win the title ha!
Hmm, not exactly helpful to Andy getting more matchplay.
Weather apparently not great either, matches have been suspended.
Another good reason for me not to have stayed an extra day. On the drive home, it was actually raining quite hard by the time I was an hour south of Barcelona. The forecast wasn't great either.
Yes Bob seems your attendance at this tournament was timed perfectly! And I imagine Andy is quite glad not to be hanging around waiting for the rain to stop.
