Alicia's 7th event of the year, all $15K. Only through qualifying once, and no points yet to show for the exertions.

Clearly very close to the win at the end of the second set and may have had MP(s), but on the face of it not too clever and as said struggling to make an impact this year. Hope it picks up for Alicia.

R1: GREY, Sarah Beth (GBR) 727 v THANDI, Karman Kaur (IND) 5 539 CH=530 16/1/17, 18yo JCH=32

That looks a challenging draw.

That's the first time this year Sarah Beth has managed to win the second set after losing the first. Now just needs to work on that third set, too.

Karman is also Sarah Beth's doubles partner this week, and they are back out already, losing the first set to the fourth seeds, 4-6

Edit: Cheat the over-zealous auto-censor for Japanese names.

Shame it's by retirement (and it's 'only' the doubles) but pleased for Beth to get a bit of luck.

Which they manage; but in which they do not prevail. A match of seemingly wild fluctuations in momentum.
QF: Grey/Thandi (GBR/IND) 1226 lost to Ozeki/Yoshˇtomi (JPN/JPN) 1416 5-7 6-1 [2-10]
